Being brought up on just playing football and cricket. Didn’t get chance to appreciate rugby. But actually like watching league and American football. Just find union legalised violence.

Not since leaving uni. But did for years before. In more seriousness the stop start nature of NFL is not for me.

NFl is not for me. I've tried to watch a few times but like the other american sports i struggle with it. The 'hits' are mostly much harder in the NFL but the athletes are pretty much in a protective bubble with their 'armour Screenshot_20181125-154120.png '. How many american footballers have ears like this?

You do realize that if they didn't ware protective gear they would be fatalities every week?

Can't bear Rugby League. Six tackles kick, six tackles kick but NFL is just tedium taken to the extreme. A moderate game dragged out to the furthest possible limits of its interest value in the pursuit of selling beer and hot dogs.

These people making these ignorant comments on here, really make me laugh.

The average rugby tackle is 10 gs. Very physical and I have the utmost respect to the people taking these tackles week in week out.
The average tackle in the NFL is 25 gs. That's just insanity.

A high-speed rollercoaster will produce between 3 and 6 gs, for reference.

Something that tips the balance in terms of physicality for me is the fact that the NFL players are all well rested. A tackle will result normally in a minute + in delays, meaning that the tackler is rested and up to full energy to take the man down again.

Not to mention the fact that tackling is a LOT different in the two sports. In rugby tackling is about dragging your opponent down to the ground, using techniques and rules. In the NFL it's about bashing into your opponent and bringing them down using any means necessary.

Also, a lot of the NFL tacking takes place from a forward pass, where the receiver is turned, looking at the ball, running backward. In rugby, there are no forward passes, and tackles are head-on, where you can brace for impact.

Yes, NFL players wear armour, but if they didn't, there would be fatalities every week. With all the armour and helmets, there were 281 concussions in the 2017 season. Can you imagine the stats if they had no helmets on?

Say what you like about the entertainment value, I personally have started to enjoy it recently. It's actually very entertaining if you take the time to learn what's going on. But it's just ignorant and false to make comments like "It's rugby for wimps".

In my limited memory of c4 games in the distant past, bringing them down by any means necessary isn`t true is it? Also not all tackles in Rugby League are head on.

Looks like you've significantly under-estimated the force of rugby tackles. This is taken from a game in New Zealand:

Rugby is for pussies who can only tackle from the waste down, they have scrums so that they can kiss and exchange phone numbers.

Okay I kid.. But I have tried to watch rugby and the players were so slow, I don't understand. Nothing like watching someone like a Tyreek Hill.. And the "hits" are so soft compared to football.
Rugby, cricket and baseball are the worst.

Football is like chess, and with 10x better athletes.

Also to answer your "does anyone care" question. check my thread titled "American Football thread"

I held that view as well when I was completely ignorant of the game like you are.

In the 16/17 season (taken from the official 'English professional rugby injury surveillance project' survey) the stat's show there were 169 concussions over 169 games (prem, euro cup and anglo-welsh cup). The NFL season runs to 256 games i believe and there are more concussions but not significantly so. I would suggest both games are pretty brutal.

I prefer to watch union as i generally find it more exciting. I don't watch league as i find it dull. League is better viewed as a spectator in the ground i'd suggest as the speed and movement is much more evident: this does not transfer well to the camera. NFL is too structured for my eye, a bit like league. It's all down to preference as everything is, rather than ignorance perhaps.

So everything on BBC has to cater to you exactly?

I can't stand Eastenders, Think it's the biggest load of ***** on TV, but some people enjoy it.

I never disputed this. My point was that those saying things like "rugby for wimps" are ignorant beyond belief.

No it should go on the percentage of viewers... I would argue that there are many more sports that would gain a better audience for a similar price.

I said I was kidding, but you should see some of the hits that take place in an average American Football game.
