I support Red 24/7 here. Having read his posts I see nothing racist in them. It's become a feature of this site that if someone takes a slightly different view some one else will misconstrue what was said and then the usual bullies pile in. I mean ffs is interpreting the word 'but' so important ?
I’ve not heard racist abuse at Oakwell in many years although I do have a season ticket & most of the people sat near me seem to be decent folk. I remember when I used to pay on the gate about 10 years ago & would end up sat in different parts of the ground I’d regularly hear Campbell Ryce, Odejayi & Moore been called black so & so’s. Even if someone held them views I can’t ever imagine thinking it’s ok to shout that when hundreds of people are around you. So I definitely think we had major racism issues only a decade ago. I think Wrighty’s a good bloke. He may have sometimes acted like an arse on a football pitch but so what? He’s passionate & playing to win. I’ve lost my rag playing five a side & know plenty of others that have. It doesn’t justify racism.
It is a lot harder to explain yourself in writing. I think the main point as you rightly state is that no matter what there's no excuse for racist taunting/abuse and by saying "but" it can water down the message Ryan Hunn (@ryanhunn) Tweeted: in the latest episode of #WrightysHouse on @ringer fc, @IanWright0 read me this letter, sent to him by a fan who racially abused him at a match in 1995. would recommend listening. https://t.co/JlWOpf4dEj
I certainly haven't accused him of racism at all. So if someone said "there is no excuse for rape, but if she was wearing skimpy clothes..." that suggests there IS an excuse by the sheer presence of "but" and the remainder of the sentence. All i did was highlight that, that he did it twice in one paragraph. I didn't call him anything at all just pointed that out!!! That's me done on this anyway. Not being called a bully for literally quoting someone's own bloody words!! Ridiculous.
Funnily enough one of the replies on facebook "Thats was something. Well played to the Burnley fan. Another one trying to make turf Moor a happy place. Progress is movement."
Well done you! Who said he’d posted anything racist though? Just so I know who you’re disagreeing with; because I also don’t think he’s a racist.
Simple.... he’s not a racist, BUT... in using the word but has implied that racism could be excused/expected. It can’t/shouldn’t...
Brilliant by Wrighty who when I was growing up was one of the very best strikers we had, but for whatever reason didn't work out for him in the national team. I remember the match in question well as I had to waste my ticket as I was ill..... https://www.11v11.com/matches/barnsley-v-arsenal-24-october-1995-33037/ The greatest back six in the history of English top flight Football and all could have played for our national team.
It's a language fault not a personality trait. My point is it's made the said poster feel like he's being called a racist. I can now see he isn't too.
I've just asked my friend about this (a gay doctor FYI, so surely an expert in the field if ever there was one?!) He advises that any direct application of the said substance would be "an exceedingly bad idea".
Absolutely there's a problem with racism amongst Barnsley fans. There was in 1995 and there is today. If there's just one spotty 15-year old dishing out racist abuse in a crowd of 15,000, that's still a problem that needs eradicating.
spot on - a good friend! tells me that amyl nitrate as well as being an antidote for cyanide poisoning dilates the blood vessels. of which ever orifice the 'muscle' ends up in. So sensations are enhanced. Stick to sniffing! (can't believe I've just typed this - hey ho!)
Allegedly it intensifies orgasms... Peter Sellers reputedly had a heart attack after sniffing it whilst bonking Britt Ekland in the sixties. Why that would have been an experience that needed intensifying is anyone's guess.
