Strange how we've gone from 'Ian Wright receives apology for abhorrent racist abuse' to 'Ian Wright owes apology'. This is how the conversation around racism gets shut down, in this case with a counter argument 'yeh but there was a bit of sh*thousery surrounding Wright' - yeh he was wrong if true but let's bring it back to the original problem: well done to that individual for rightly sending a letter of apology. And well done to Wright for acknowledging it and accepting it.

Not true, the timelines don’t fit. The story may have happened. but not against Arsenal. And Sledging is more or less an acceptable part of sport. Nothing is personal unless you get wound up by it. It’s shop floor Banter if you don’t. Racist chanting is not Banter.

It’s possible the poster. He remembered a conversation but not the situation. Futcher did work at Huddersfield college after retiring from football. And more than likely played against Wrighty several times. Just not those games mentioned.
Happened to me last week I got the gist right but remembered it slightly differently. ( as it was pointed out to me) Old age mate. memory playing tricks.

Lots of pent up sexual tension between football hooligans. Probably helps them ‘relax’ with each other.

i was at that match with an arsenal supporting mate and his daughter. we were sat at the side of the old tunnel in the old west stand lower, the weather was horrendous and we had to keep standing up to tip the rain water out of our seats. i can remember wrighty dancing infront of the ponty end and holding 2 fingers up after they had scored their 2nd, my mate looked at me and said " he's going to suffer for that, i wouldnt fancy winding that lot up especially in this weather", wrighty got dogs abuse that game, and although i dont condone the racist abuse in any form that behavior didnt do him any favours

If someone's behaviour causes another person to be racist towards him then that person is already racist. What I'm saying is Wright didn't get racially abused because he wound the ponty up he got racially abused because there were racists in the crowd. His behaviour didn't encourage it, his skin colour did

I didn't go, I didn't live in Barnsley at the time, but it was the commentary game on Radio 5. It was clearly audible and the commentary team were disgusted. Pretty sure I switched it off. A low point in supporting the club that made me seriously question that support.

Ian Wright played against us in 80s for Palace, the Wright and Bright partnership days,Futcher had him in his pocket, too much nouse for young Wrighty back
then, remember my younger brother was at wall in Ponty,Wright tried to do a fancy turn on edge of 6 yard box, messed up and fell flat on his face,my brother and his mates were laughing at it,he got up and started giving them dogs abuse, some blokes in crowd started giving him some back, sticking up for the kids, don’t think he is as nice as he paints himself ,lots of black players been to Oakwell and not been abused,no excuse for it but if you are winding the crowd up some people go for the lowest common denominator to hit back,no excuse to racially abuse someone, but your not telling me thousands of Barnsley fans are racist because I don’t believe it

Just read on facebook that he gave a Barnsley fan his Arsenal tie after the match. In all honesty, I wouldn't have been able to do that after receiving such horrendous abuse.

I don't think it's bullying to highlight you said "but" twice in your post. Though we might have to consult with Priti Patel for a definitive view.

It's not virtue signalling though is it? It's someone who simply picked up on two points of making excuse. "But", negates what goes before it. If merely highlighting something is considered bullying, we really are in a sad place.
