Yes but that's different. The doors were locked and the parents knew that there were patrols. In the McCanns case they actually turned down a babysitter, left the kids in an unlocked apartment that was in the very corner of the apartment complex with doors and windows directly onto the road. No patrols or any kind of guarding and despite what the McCanns claimed in their lies they weren't just a few metres away, from the apartment to the taps bar was more like from the ponty end to the away end without a direct line of sight

This is my friend's experience from the 90s. Her parents wondered why I didn't want to go away with them! She said that they told her that the daytime was for the kids and the night time was for them. As well as leaving them every night, they once left her and her brother at the table tennis spot for 3 hours during the daytime, without even a key so they couldn't get any equipment, after saying that they would be ten minutes and they should go in and play. I did once go on a club trip with them to Blackpool (the only one I ever went on) and her parents went to the pub on the pier where kids couldn't go in and ignored us the whole day. They didn't give her any of the spending money and wouldn't come out to us when we were signalling to them through the window. It took someone who worked there, who spotted us and asked whose attention we were trying to get, to go and tell them. They then shouted at her for embarrassing them. Unsurprisingly, she quite liked going away with us where the holiday basically revolved around what we wanted to do.

Some people just don't deserve the gift of children

Leaving your kids in a locked wooden chalet relying on patrols going round a holiday park was still a risk, if a fire had broken out or if the patrols had got fed up and not bothered anything could have happened, they could have been broken into easily and children taken.

    A very different risk.

Risk of abduction incredibly rare. Risk of slipping on a tiled floor, getting on the road or in the sea by walking out of an unlocked apartment, And if a fire had broken out at the ages the McCann's were at their instinct would be to hide, not get out of the apartment.

Risk of abduction incredibly rare yet Madeleine was abducted and her parents have been vilified for years, if fire had broken out in butlitz wooden chalet chances of getting children out would have been very low, the likelihood of this is much greater than child being abducted but in McCann instance it happened

We don't know she was abducted from the apartment, We do know the children woke up and cried for their parents. The parents knewes is yet still decided to leave them the next night. Negligence by any body's standards and not comparable to Butlins. .

If that had ever happened to me as my kids were growing up, one thing I know for sure the other kids would never leave my sight, ever again.

Whenever I see a picture of these, I can’t help think she looks haunted, but he looks almost unaffected, not got a clue what that means just strikes me every time.

All I know about the McCann case is that if they were a skag family from Kendray they would have been treated very differently. I hope this is the guy and I hope they get the closure they need but man alive can you imagine the tabloid mauling if it was Donna the Doley from tarn that left her kids alive to get hammered.
