What's depressing about it is that he only slips because he tries to stop to avoid the swinging leg from the Bolton player. If he just kept running he is the one being fouled and the Bolton guy gets booked for the wild swinging leg. If that's true about the rules then they are teaching players to avoid self preservation or be booked. Which is beyond stupid.
We can debate all day long the second he slid in ref seen it as he's caught him it happens that's the life of a midfielder. Hourihane 100% right it's the first that's the problem Burstow bloke catches him he should've made the most of that his head coach was a master of that. He's young he will learn I'm sure but I don't think he was badly done to.
He was silly for the first booking, the Bolton player booted the ball at him to get a throw, yes was aggressive but we’d want to see that wouldn’t we? Needs to control his reaction
To be fair, us fans might want to see that passion but when players smash the ball at each other when either laid on the floor or completely off the pitch, 99% of them react like that. It obviously wasn’t right to react like that but in the heat of a tense, big game I am not surprised at the reaction.
If that is the considered decision, that he wins the ball but it’s still a yellow maybe a red due to the law or interpretation of the law as it is then the law is an ass. It’s a 50 50 ball and he gets there first, the law should protect him,the other player has gone in for the ball in exactly the same way but he came second, by a small margin, but second none the less. Unless you have the ability to change the law of physics the first player will always maintain momentum and hit the second player. It is unfair to ask the ball winner to not hit the second player as they cannot, it is unfair to ask the ball winner not to try to win the ball.
I expect we will again be charged (along with Bolton) for failing to control our players? Fines will be building up.
Just for balance in a previous game there was a similar altercation (was it plymouth?) and Yongathon actually ran away as their team were trying to make an issue of it.
That’s a penalty then, if foul carries on into box it’s a pen in rules I think. Sure I saw that somewhere.
Totally agree mate but under the 2025 law (is an ass) I reckon it’s difficult to argue against the decision.
Agree mate - I did mean it that way - under the current laws it could have been a straight red as he didn’t have control and endangered opponent. Therefore it’s very difficult to argue against the yellow, I can totally see why he gave it.
Luckily we currently have a strong midfield department and either Kelly or Russell comes in to cover Yoganathan's 1 match ban.
Agree. This sums it up best. I don’t think there was intent but he followed through. In that sense he was unlucky. Of course the histrionics of the Bolton players doesn’t help. Yes you Josh Sheehan. He was an idiot for getting that first booking and it’s not the first time he’s lost his rag when provoked. He’s areal talent this lad but he needs to wise up to the professional game more quickly.
Not sure if this has been asked already, but when the Bolton player rose, Lazarus like, back to his feet after treatment for the clash with Yogi, why wasn't he made to go to the touchline and wait to come back on?
Apparently, because the offending player was booked the rule doesn’t apply. Another rule I’ve never heard of. Honestly, I go to games now and I’ve little idea one minute to the next. Some might say that’s always been the case.
One of my favourite moments yesterday was the ref hurrying Murphy up, with a goal kick, whilst Bolton were bringing subs on. Stupid t**t.
Do you not remember the FA Cup penalty awarded against Owen Archdeacon at Oldham? The foul started a good ten yards outside the box, the Oldham lad staggered on till he got into the penalty area, went down, penalty awarded.
My mate is a swindon fan my bro is a liverpool. Both text me this morning after watching us v trotters yesterday. Both said utter ****** both were not yellows. Said the ref was ***** and the 2nd one specially was a joke players moaning at ref and player rolling around on the floor
Based on today's standards I think you're absolutely right, it was a yellow card. I despair at those standards though. Vimal has got there first and won the ball. It's his forward movement that then impacts the Bolton player, who is fractionally late into the challenge. It's strange to me that the player who wins the ball somehow becomes responsible for any contact with the player who arrives afterwards. Certainly 25 years ago and maybe even 10 years ago that's not even a free-kick. The constant erosion of physical contact in the game is ruining it as a spectacle imho.
