Cotter and Watters missed sitters which even the commentator was surprised at. If these were put away it would it would have reflected our dominance in the second half. If we are to push for a top six place we have to sort our forward line out. I am not sure Watters, Marsh and Cosgrove are up to the job.
MDG had a very poor first half, both Wigan chances came from him trying too much and loosing the ball in midfield. I think he needs a spell out of the team to give Lopata a chance
Some good performances tonight, good game time for pines and another goal. Watters does everything right just can't get that goal, movement is decent, carries the ball well. Cosgrove, Where's playoff Sam looks lazy and or unfit MDG and Earl both frightening at times. Gent looks neat and tidy impressed with his delivery. Craig didn't do anything spectacular but got back to put blocks and important tackles. Russell excellent again for me Lofthouse looks good needs game time this lad. Cotter had a decent game looks to have cut out trying to do too much in the attacking 1/3rd has he cut out the 30 step overs. Great debut for keeper gaga
Cosgrove is a funny one. For someone 6ft 5 he jumps about 4ft 2. For someone built like a brick shithouse a waft of wind knocks him off the ball.
Agreed Already looked way better than last season, and miles better than Cosgrove who worries me far more
I was impressed with our corners tonight, seem to have started putting some pace on them for the first time in years!
Good performance from the team - if only we had natural finishers - right result Wigan are nothing to write home about
I already like Clarke, based on what I’ve seen. You can see he’s trying to be positive for every minute. He’s not afraid to make changes to try and affect that. There’s only so much he’s gonna be able to do though. It’s blindingly obvious by now, where the weaknesses are.
I think Luca has now recovered from his Wembley sitter miss and now has new found confidence. (Hence his swagger, through balls and f cuking 5 h ite penalty) Think Collins did a good job with him last season.
If Watters is still first choice striker at Christmas we’ll be 15th. Couldn’t finish his tea that lad.
Enjoyed the second half. Nothing to add to what’s been already said really. We all know what we need and what we need to improve on, but it’s a first win for Clarke and the lads. Everyone should feel a bit happier than at the weekend.
Thought we played some excellent football in second half just crying out for a decent striker . It was nice to see us take the tie a little more seriously than recent seasons . Hopefully we get a decent home draw tomorrow
Wouldn’t be against it, I like lopata before he got wrongly dropped then shipped out. I think MDG is good on the front foot high in their third and in most aerial battles but terrible distribution and defensive positioning. I wouldn’t mind a 4-2-3-1 but we don’t have wingers for it, although Jalo should be nurtured into a winger imo.
1 more quality CB and 2 good strikers away from top 6, easier said than done like, it costs decent dough
So Maximum Watters still sounds as bad, as a second rate closed down former water theme park. But he did put his pen away, and Connell did not!!. Maybe we're already seeing why this new keeper has had so much paid for him in transfer fees. A big thumbs up for him helping us win on pens.
Tbf to Watters his pace caused them more problems than Cosgrove did. Shame he can’t seem to buy a goal from open play at the moment though.
