If we become 'offended on someone else's behalf' we make two assumptions - that the person we think may be offended really is offended and the offended person wants us to stick up for him/her. This may not always be the case.
I'm a white man. I'm not offended on the behalf of Bambo Diaby - I just think it's a distinctly unpleasant chant and I don't like stereotypes based on anybody's colour or nationality. I think it makes the club and its fans look terrible. Is that OK with you? I'd hate to upset the "PC gone mad" brigade.
I'm not offended on behalf of anyone I'm mocking that phrase because it's puerile - it's excusing behaviour that should be challenged. I am though embarrassed to be associated with the idiots singing this, and disgusted that I have to engage with those defending these nob-heads. I'm embarrassed when I read newspaper articles that say Barnsley FC has a high proportion of racist incidents, embarassed when former players point at us as racist fans. I'm not apologising or making excuses for these idiots - I would like them to grow up or go away. And those of you who think they've done nothing wrong - you're just as bad, or maybe it was you? - in which case... see above.
why tell us you're a white man - why is that relevant. 'don't like stereotypes..... ' a waffly statement that means nothing. I think the chant is unpleasant and immature.
It's surprising how many of your responses on this forum show a complete lack of comprehension of what someone else has written - usually followed by a personal jibe.
I think it's obvious from the post I replied to why it's relevant to say that I'm a white man. If you can't see how that piece of information is relevant to that particular discussion then I think we're probably done here. I'm glad we agree on the chant.
Without wanting to join the debate. Rights and wrongs. I’m dreading the day as a Yorkshireman. No one from outside can use the word tight in comedy. How about you Ian. Get thi hand in thi pocket. We will buy you a drink after we’ve found the cheapest pub.
A nice sidestep from someone defending racism - just accuse the person who points it out of getting personal. The easy way to avoid getting mixed up with racists is obviously to not defend them
