Eastleigh was the site of the Southern Railway’s workshops, their equivalent of Doncaster “plant”.

That would make it easier, but it definitely needs 3 lanes each way, which I know will never happen.

I agree it's got to be the right thing to do. It should have been upgraded to motorway from the M40 to the M3 when the Newbury bypass was built. Sadly now it will not happen. At the very least the on slip roads need to be lengthened to make them safe. The on slip at East Ilsley is a death trap. Sadly I will not live to see the A34 upgraded to motorway. Unless the hydrogen powered car takes over days of private motoring are numbered. That's an interesting one. I was talking about this with a friend who said that whenever hydrogen cars are mentioned she recalls the Hindenburg airship. Enough said.

It still is. I do not know who owns the railway works nowadays but it is still open for business.

Glad you posted that. I was just going to ask if it was the site of what is now Southampton Airport.

Right next door to Southampton Airport. You could walk to it from the airport. Only trouble is you'd probably have to fly via Amsterdam, or somewhere daft!

I got lost a few years back in Eastleigh - wound down the car window to ask for directions, only to find I was talking to Stuart Gray, our legendary ex-player. Have that.
