Twice the wage to leave a relatively secure job for one that I’m highly likely to lose within a few months and reduce my stock totally, leaving me in a job earning less than my current one and having to relocate totally? I despise the ridiculous non football related cheer leading for Heckingbottom’s bank balance but that’s a whopper. PS Stendel is 100x the manager he is. Actually built the team and got automatics. Heckingbottom took over a team on a roll and kept it going, then got totally found out. He’s not even the best manager we’ve had recently for man management, Flitcroft was far better for that.
Agree with most of what you've posted Donny Red. However, I think had Heckingbottom sat down with Patrick Cryne pre season and told him to his face what he thought about the set-up. He could have walked away with some sought of amicable agreement in place. A new coach could have been brought in sooner, dispelled some of the neagtivity/hangover from the previous january and we might have had a better season and ultimately stayed up. That's in the past now though. Now we're back where we belong I'm willing to relent a bit.
Well put. It was the way Hecky went about it that did jeopardise our survival chances. In my opinion taking the job at Hibs is a step down from Barnsley, so other than the wad of cash for his pay out at Leeds, it hasn't helped his career in the short / medium term. That said, as was my main point of the thread, I've very happy with the coach we have now, who has helped restore is to the Championship. I'm hoping that now is the time the new board shows what they are made of. Financially we've struggled in the Championship, but other similar sized clubs, like Brentford, Preston, etc have managed to do OK, so there is hope.
To be fair to Hibs, there is at least a decent chance of European football through 3rd place or winning a cup, which is more than he could get in L1 or the Championship. Ok, so a 2 leg qualifier in the footballing hotspots of Latvia, Estonia or Iceland (no disrespect to any team in the qualifiers) might not be the dream tie of the round, but it does build experience in a way that few English managers will get the chance of. All he has to do is prove that he has the ability to lift his team up a couple of places next season.
