I know John personally, not very well but I know him. He’s a confidence player, hence why he was so impressive in the World Cup. However at city, their owners and management demand titles every year and the pressure is too much for him. He needs to move on, I think Arsenal or Chelsea would be a great fit for him.

as others have said, you don’t become a bad player overnight. He’s one of the best centre backs in Europe when his head is right. He has had a lot of personal issues over the last 18 months too regarding his fiancé etc.

Other than Harry Kane - I think Stones is the best player England has got.
I’ve always thought Stones was too good to be a blocking central defender and always thought his best position was as a defensive midfielder.

They’ve played him as a midfielder, and he’s not looked any good. For me he’s a ball-playing centre back. Ideal in the middle of a three.

He’s treaded water and arguably gone backwards for the last two years. But he hasn’t suddenly become a poor player. Pep doesn’t rate him anymore, or at least doesn’t trust him. He could do with leaving this summer, plenty of good clubs would take him.

I actually think a move abroad would do him good. I always saw him as a Barcelona type player.
