But is that purely down to money? If they spent £200k, but thought they would only get £200 or even £250k they may just think it’s not worth it. You and I with an attachment may think different, but they will see it as black and white as that.
It’s all a bit nostalgia this. football isn’t the same as it was 30 years ago. We should absolutely celebrate what John Dennis achieved but we shouldn’t want to go back there. Comparing then and now is futile, impossible even. The playing field has literally changed beyond all recognition.
Nowt like a cheesy joke to perk up a thread! Which player did you like from the Dennis years? Personally I thought Nicky Edam was underrated.
You're assuming they didn't? Maybe they did & PC said the offer didn't stand anymore? We'll never know.
ok, here's my two cents: John Dennis - took us to the promised land and administration. Cryne - saved us, relegated us, promoted us. The Chien Dynasty - relegation, promotion, closest to premier league in 20 years Its a mixed bag from all of them, lets be honest, no one can say one particular group got it all wrong or all right. Football has been transformed beyond recognition during that time, we have always been a small fish swimming in a bigger pond but the discrepancy has become stark - in the past we could keep players like Redfern for extended periods because probably the pay difference was not that great, now, players can leave Barnsley, sit on the bench at another club at our level and triple their salaries - player and manager loyalty has gone completely from the game. We have definitely fighting in a much tougher environment, having said that we don't make it easy on ourselves do we? All this wrangling over the ground ownership, the pre-season shambles which is most likely going to get us relegated, again, all point to the current failings from the consortium, lack of leadership, lack of ownership and lack of footballing knowledge - I mean this is just embarrassing to read now: https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/spo...aking-co-chairman-paul-conway-reveals-3324947 He spent 7 months chasing a crock? Jesus H Christ on a bike.
If that was the case I'm sure we would have heard about it. Maybe he just didn't want to go back to pc as they didn't get on
Only thing in it for them is profit from player sales. As things stand at moment there isn't much they could sell for good money right now, apart from maybe Helik and possibly Woodrow. Styles stock will be falling I'd imagine and our summer signings aren't exactly setting the world on fire. Reckon they could reach a point in the not too distant future when they might look to sell, especially if we were to be relegated. The ground issue would be a massive problem for any potential sale though I'd have thought.....
This squad is unique. It was in a false position last year. The best assets have already gone in Mowatt and Val. Woodrow has been in decline since Struber took over and ruined him. Styles has gone badly off the boil. That leaves Helik and Andersen. I think Andersen improved because of Covid. Jury still out on him. Helik looks half decent but he's been half arsed since his international recognition.
Thought I'd read it on here or somewhere that PC made an offer, but that offer came with a condition of pay it back by X date (which wasn't entirely a reasonable length of time), otherwise PC got the club outright. Hence the interests of shareholders that JD referred to. Either way. Had the bank or itv digital not done their bits, we would have been fine as far as I know.
I’m not a conspiracy theorist but the only people who could answer that were the Administators at the time Robson Rhodes , coincidentally the same firm auditing ( or not) iSoft ( Crynes firm ) accounts . PC had links with Barnsley Council having previously worked for them , I think Peter Doyle was a Councillor at the time . The end result was PC getting the club and 50% of the new assets company ( the ground) along with the Council . All no doubt coincidence
To add insult to injury they used John Dennis as some sort of consultant until Cryne eventually was willing to put his name to things. Are you saying he was involved all along and took a back seat during the sticky period for fear of mud slinging and did allow the club to nearly fold in order to get his hands on the club?
