Woah woah woah sweet child o mine wind yer neck in fella. Cycling is a fun and healthy way of getting about me and my mrs have enjoyed many a bike ride to the farm shop over the years for a brew in the cafe and a look in the shop. However, thats somewhat different to gangs of wannabees razzing around the country lanes in packs in full team regalia without a thought for others trying to use the roads. I have no problem with leisure or cycle to work types, its the wiggins wannabees that pyss me off. I wonder which category you fall into given your response ????

It has been really good running on the Trans Pennine Trail. Walkers have actually been moving off the path to let me run past them. Cyclists have been the problem where they won't move over for you which they should do, still two many of them riding side by side, and of course dog owners who are letting their dogs off the lead. I saw a dog on a lead being attacked by one whose owner had let it off the lead. The two owners had to get far too close to split them up.

I'm 64 years old and ride a steel framed touring bike for leisure and a hybrid for my commute. I don't wear lycra. Nevertheless we can do without mindless Jeremy Clarksonesque comments which only engender a them and us attitude between road users. Rather than worrying too much over Wiggins wannabees, I'd worry more about Lewis Hamilton wannabees in their hot hatches teararsing about the countryside.

    Also I can't abide Guns n Roses.....

I’m 54 years old, ride a mountain bike sometimes at weekends and don’t wear lycra either. I was speaking from a personal perspective as I often come across gangs of lycra clad middle aged blokes on the back roads between our sites riding as though the road has been closed especially for their own indulgence. I’ve obviously touched a nerve with you so best to leave it there I think.

Done quite a bit of running over past 3 years as a way to get fit, as a general rule what I’ve found is most of the running community are all polite and friendly.
It seems to be an unwritten etiquette that you say hello to fellow walkers and runners, if you’re fortunate to be fast enough to creep up on someone they tend to let you know in advance as they approach.
In an evening run we share an old railway path with cyclists going home most have an expectancy for the pedestrian to move for them.

Two cyclists have just done the same while I was outside my parents house separating their shopping from ours and unloading it from the car. They kept going backwards and forwards past me too close for comfort, shouting to each other as they did so.

I'm a runner. I usually do about 70 miles per week at this time of year. I usually run in the park, but since COVID I've been either getting up and running early at 5.30am, or like tonight, I'll be putting my headtorch on and heading off about 8pm and road running. Either way, it's really good - I can run at pace on smooth roads rather than pavements and see maybe 5 people in an hour or so of running even on the outskirts of London. In my experience (decent) runners are more alert and quicker to switching direction, by the nature of the activity they are doing.
