I'll make sure to ask you, after any Wednesday fan I meet, a house brick or the King of Brunei. Seriously you've provided no sort of any counter argument at all and generally you just make yourself look like a bit of lovely person.

There's quite a lot of abuse on this thread. Not quite sure why.
I think the defence we have is decent and is likely to get better - with age and experience. The issue for the Manager (and the fans) is whether we have the patience to wait. The back five got found out a bit today, and they will when they come up against good attackers through this season. McDonald was no worse than the others today. IMO he'll grow into a fine CB, but there are going to be ups and downs along the way.
Can the 21 century BFC fan put up with that?

Because some people like slag off our players and laud others that have left us and point out where we're wrong and then start talking rubbish without being able to carry an argument

To be fair you've both offered your opinions on why you think either Roberts or Mawson are better. And although claiming Mawson is better on the ball than stones is a tad daft, I think it's also fair to suggest Mawson is a better all round defender than Roberts. Hence the reason he is the one who has just gone to the prem for a hefty fee.

But he hasn't really has he, he's just said that Mawson was better on the ball than Stones, we all know Mawson is far superior to Roberts on the ball, you'd be silly not to recognise that but being better at that doesn't make him the better all round defender and like I said Mawson will also have brought such a big fee due to his age and the potential he has and the fact he scores alot not purely because of his defensive attributes. He's a better footballer than Roberts yes, but not a better defender.

Oh dear. I agree with that as well.

Where we might struggle is, it looks like the moment that McD and Roberts are very similar defenders. I think we might need a bit more 'savvy ' at times in this league. Let me be a bit more controversial. It's where our ' under 25's policy' might just fall down.

Well I think he has in his point A. And I agree with him in the assertion that Mawson is equally good in defence, if not better, and also offers better quality on the ball. You disagree, fair do's.

This is just your opinion. Which is welcomed.

My own opinion is that there is no need for you to make exchanges so personal.

    just post your opinion.

I have made several legitimate points ad to why Mawson is better, you just keep overlooking them and claiming I've got no argument because you know I've proved myself right.

Would you like me to repeat those for you?

That too is something I thought last week, how similar to Roberts he looked. We'll have to see how that pans out over time.

If we would all like to check he made it "personal" before I did and my main problem was that he started this before he'd even made a valid counter point. Regarding you threadstopper I didn't make it personal earlier in the week you were just being pedantic. Also have you noticed I haven't made it personal with Mateo who hasn't become personal at all he's just voiced his opinion

In his point A he was suggesting that Roberts isn't anywhere near Mawson defensively which alot of people, not just Barnsley fans wouldn't agree with, it's your opinion and I respect that because you haven't become personal in anyway but I won't sit there and let someone tell me I know nothing about football when he's well known to right off players purely because he doesn't like them

Ahhh so you have actually read my points? So is it just a case of choosing to put that I've made non to try and wangle your way out of a losing battle?

    Key elements of defending:

Tackling: reasonably even but I'd sway towards Mawson. Not often you saw anyone get past him.
Heading: Again, reasonably even as both were/are terrific in the air. Id sway towards Roberts though for his sheer size although he won nothing last week.
    Reading the game: Mawson everyday
Organisation: Mawson always seemed to be the one communicating to the rest of the back 4
Distribution: Easy to give this one to Mawson
    Pace: Mawson edges it

    Anything I've missed?
