The left back issue is the main one for me. Shaw goes down and we're toast.

If Toney wants to play regularly for us/England in the future, Im sure he knows hes got to leave Brentford.

Sad but true. Going off topic I was quite young to remember us been in the premiership 11/12 but wasnt dave watson close to a england call up while with us? Kevin phillips for sunderland scored for fun but was overlooked for england unless your in the top 10 established premiership teams its hard to get picked for england.

Yeah its ridiculous that a genuinely talented player who is bang in form, can get overlooked (ignored) because hes not with one of the so called top clubs.

Played like a man with a point to prove to Southgate and unlucky not to have an hat trick.

No way would Watson have been called up whilst playing for us. The nearest I can recall a Reds player getting called up was when England were desperate for centre halves going into the 1982 World Cup. They’d even brought an ancient Dave Watson back at one point. I think it was Bobby Collins who recommended Mick McCarthy to Ron Greenwood, and had he already been playing for Man City at the time he would probably have got a chance, but not whilst playing for us. We forget how good McCarthy was at that time.

I can always remember the ponty singing watson for england but too young to really recollect how close/ far away he was to a call up.

Agree. I’ve seen people try to justify it by saying Trippier can play there but if Chilwell is fit he takes two left backs 100% guaranteed.

With Walker out for most of the group stage we have just 3 fit wing backs when several months ago he was taking 6 every international break. It doesn’t make sense to me.

I don’t think anyone can claim it’s big club bias. He picked Wilson at Bournemouth too.

I think if you look at it he only plays one striker from the start & he’s never taking Kane off if we need a goal & it’s unlikely that he puts on a second out & out striker with Kane either.

In all likelihood Gareth would go from a back 5 to a back 4 or take off a central midfielder & add an attacking midfielder if we need a goal.

Rashford probably doesn’t deserve to go but he’s not like for like with him been able to play wide too.

In reality if he takes 3 out & out strikers 1 isn’t getting any game time unless you get an injury crisis & that could happen in any position.

The choice then comes down to do you prefer Wilson or Toney. I prefer Wilson but both have had brilliant 2022’s & whichever one missed out would understandably feel hard done to.
