Sadly, Councils powers are limited when it comes to opposing planning applications as a refusal of an application could be overturned by the Government if the latter feels that the refusal falls foul of national policy. In this case, the consortium could argue that the building of a new stadium and other supporting infrastructure (hotels etc) elsewhere in the borough would bring significant local benefits as well as sustaining a successful national economy.

I can't see where they'd get the money from though. New stadiums aren't cheap and they won't want to dip into their own pockets.

Well, time Will tell I suppose. I think Nice and then us were just a way of starting their portfolio, I don't think they are that bothered with improving the individual clubs situations in terms of any monetary investment.

I just take it as they have changed their stance to estate agents not too bothered about everyday running. I just hope when they do sell it's to the right people.

yeah they haven’t paid for the club yet. 20
Million quid plus for a new stadium seems a tad ambitious

The lowdown for me. The restrictive Covenants do not prevent any building or improvements on Oakwell. There have been amendments to the 1907 Covenant in 2003 and 2007 that allow alcohol to be served. Not an issue for me.

It boils down to this...even factoring in the mineral rights. There is nothing to stop Conway and co buying the Stadium and the club. There is nothing preventing them taking Barnsley Football Club forward providing they are legit.

Their gripe is fanciful for me. Buy the club and facilities outright for the agreed price or FC UK off

Think they also claimed Champions League football but had qualified before they completed
When they first came here, that what I genuinely thought they would do.
To make us self sufficient build a Hotel, Restaurants, Casino etc in the same area and profits would support the club.
Bit like what Ken Bates did for Chelsea.

They can do that here. They're being pinickety to try and force the Cryne's and Councils hand. The Covenants don't stop them doing any of those things. They just stipulate where they can do them.

Why would they want to diamond mine the 18 yard box of build a hotel over half of the East Stand?

If their intentions were honourable there'd be no problem.

This issue just shows them up as Charlatans.

Just a viewpoint on Oakwell and the land.

I'd actually like it if any owner decided to breath some extra life into the area, maybe a hotel, additional leisure facilities etc, a few bars or summat for away fans and a supporters bar for reds fans. On the provision that they are in place to generate extra funding for the football team. It's a missed opportunity really to have additional revenue streams flowing in to the coffers.

I'd hate to see it flogged off for housing though or non associated retail / leisure.

All this hotel talk ...... why? we had the Queens in town which closed down. We have a Premier Inn in town, do we need more, would it actually make money? [I admit a dedicated away fans bar would on a match day]

Seems to be what they do. Didn't PC intimate in an interview (maybe when they purchased K.V. Oostende) that they were responsible for purchasing Conor Hourihane, using it as an example of the success of their approach?

Were we linked before the takeover? Reason I ask is we signed a hell of a lot of players in summer 2017 well before the takeover. Sumat got me thinking Cryne had never shelled out like that before. Didn't we sign six dozen midfielders?

I'm not sure that multiple bars would work really because there wouldn't be any trade the rest of the year.

In my ideal world we would complete the east stand mezzanine. The entire North stand end of it would be a kids club that has a staircase into the family stand. The ponty end side of it would have a simple a large conference hall because I don't think we have one at present.

We'd replace the west stand with a new one identical to the east stand but the mezzanine would be completed and fitted out really classy as a smallish restaurant on the ponty end of it, and a small classy bar attached. The rest would be rented out as office space

Build a replica of the corner stand in the corner of the west and ponty that is a bit bigger at the back and that is a hotel. The restaurant and bar within the west stand could be accessed from it. On the front of the stand (pitchside) would be a big screen scoreboard.

Build another one on the east/north corner with a simple bar on the upper floor for away fans that can be accessed from the away end. On the front of it would be big screen scoreboard. On the lower floor would be another simple easily maintained bar which has glass frontage on the side facing outwards (ie not pitchside). Somehow it would link up to the waste ground opposite it to form a really large permanent fanzone.

That would be my starting points
