Equally valid these protestors could use the money they spend travelling round the country getting to the protest sites, printing banners etc to organise (and fund) for old vulnerable people to have additional insulation for their homes. Protesting is simple. There are hundreds of protest groups on all manner of subjects. Protesting whilst coming up with practical workable solutions is harder. Too hard for most of these idiots who want the authorities to simply wave a magic wand and , hey presto - every home in the UK will be magically insulated.

 

It's a weird one, remember when there were the fuel protests and nothing was done about lorries blocking the motorways.

Yes, no one wants to stop protests but the police should be able to intervene if they are stopping others from going about their lawful business, as has always been the case. Of course the police do pick and choose which protests to get heavy handed in.

 

So the hundreds of pounds they spend on transport is going to make a difference then? Millions of pounds need to be spent. The government could do it instantly by getting back the £37 Billion they gave to Dido Harding.

 

There are way better ways of getting their point across than what they are doing.
How many ambulances and people needing to get to urgent, time critical appointments, pregnant women, folk trying to get to see sick or dying relatives etc, have been held up by these idiots!
They might have good intentions , but I'm surprised there hasn't been more violence from some of the folk they are holding up.

 

I've never quite understood why people carry out protests like this. If you stand back and look at it dispassionately, all it does is whip up angst in people you'd like to have on your side and most likely agree with what you're protesting about. It unifies opposition against a cause rather than support.

Extinction rebellion has been doing this for years, and all they've achieved is getting lawmakers to toughen the laws to make it easier to arrest and prosecute them. Insulate Britain are assisting the transition to a totalitarian state where protest and dissent isn't just discouraged and ignored, but acted upon to quash and isolate it.

Sadly, their cause is one of those things that despite being extremely important, will be ignored by this government, despite yet another lie that they profess to have green credentials.

 

From the little I've read, they are an offshoot of Extinction Rebellion.

Main protest is for insulation paid for in full by the government of social housing. It's for the people who don't own their homes, but are in fuel poverty. Which then of course reduced carbon footprints and helps the planet etc.

A secondary part was for the government to also fully fund all remaining homes thereafter.

It's a fair protest point, but the manor if which they are doing it, is totally unacceptable.

They could of course, rather than push the government for funding it, push for policy that social housing should be up to standard by landlords for a start.

 

I got my loft insulated from free about 10 years ago under a government backed scheme. At the time it wasn't means tested. There still are schemes for many on low income.

The vote for the working class, votes for women, the right to unionise, safe working conditions. The list goes on.

The conservatives especially (clue is in the name) don't want change, they want the status quo, they will only be made to change by public protest.

 

Whats changed because of some people gluing themselves to the buildings, trains, planes and roads?

 

Queuing for fuel blocking roads, junctions, whose causing this?

 

Just been on Calendar News , scientists etc FLYING in from around the Globe to discuss global warming do as I say not do as i do - hypocritites the lot !

 

But surely the trick is to protest in a way that brings the public onto your side. Blocking roads and delaying ambulances in not the way to do that.

 

Yep, one thing to block the roads, but to refuse access to emergency services is just wrong.

 

Also if you are already insulated, you could get a payout by recommending someone not.

Prior to lockdown I worked for 6 months as a plater collecting and delivering cars from dealership to dealership. All BMW Mercs Audis on the whole but other great motors all a maximum of 3 years old. A lot of ex hire cars but on the whole it was very rare to get one with auto start stop.

 

Maybe it had been turned off, my 7 year old Merc has it, the missus's 11 year old Mini (BMW) has it, pretty sure all new BMW and Mercs come with it as standard, not sure on Audi's.

 

I got a brand new BMW Tourer in 08 and was told they came as standard from that year.
Can’t vouch either way after that as have not had a BMW since that one.

 

Barnsley council and utilities companies are staging their own little protests, digging every chuffing road up in and around Barnsley at the same time, leaving cones and temporary traffic lights to annoy the public haha.

Seriously though, these past few weeks, never known so many roadworks on every route into town.

As for the insulate Britain protestors, a quick game of chicken with em whilst driving a steamroller, see who blinks first.

I don't think their current tactic are gaining them any support within the general public. There are other ways and places they could protest and done the right way, they would get the public on side.

They could have blocked all the entrances to all the political conferences to inconvenience the MP's etc. Point is, attacking the public infrastructure will not work.
