Frame 1: Ronnie 97 Frame 2: Higgins 41 Frame 3: Higgins 145 Frame 4: Higgins 110 Frame 5: Ronnie 125 Frame 6: Ronnie 103 Frame 7: Higgins 134 Frame 8: Higgins 88 These class of 92 kids need to step up the highest break of a frame standard
I've said it before Ronnie isn't the same player against Trump, Robertson, Allen, Selby and Higgins. It's a shame he's met Higgins tonight. Only bloke left worth his salt and he loses.
Sullivan just gave up. Don’t think his head was in the right place. Still a great performance from Higgins
It has. If you strip back O'Sullivans career only two of his World Championships against Higgins and Kyren Wilson he's had to beat the best. He lost to Selby in 2014 in the final. The rest were against nobodies in the kind side of the draw.
The missed red in the last frame summed his mind set up for me last night. He doesn't want to roll his sleeves up and fight back into matches anymore. If it's the previous frame and it isn't 3-5 and he's 3-4 down to level the match he clears up. He didn't have stomach for it because even at 4-5 he's still one frame from going out. He knew Higgins had him covered. He wanted to have an early night. Un buttoned waist coat straight after. Still got the class but will only win out in tournaments now if on easy side of draw and Trump and co knock each other out or have a mare.
He often reminds me of Taylor in the darts, where he bullies and intimidates players into submission, often before they have even played. In fairness to Ronnie though he lists Higgins, Robertson, Trump, Hendry and Davis as the best 5 ever. Saying unless you play your very best you will get beat. I think also he doesn’t want it as much as the others and that shows at times. Great match though and well played Higgins.
Blimey, you have a real downer on O'Sullivan don't you mate, lol Sometimes you've got to expect decent players (like Higgins, Trump etc) to be able to win 5 or 6 franmes off Ronnie in these short format tournies. The longer sessions, the cream will rise to the top
My favourite sports person. I have his autobiography. Hate seeing him going the same way as Steve Davis and Jimmy White.
Think both Davis and White really enjoyed playing the game, Jimmy still does. Inevitable that you're going to be less successful as time goes on.
