What about this thought then. By voting to leave we effectively took our goalie off the pitch and allowed our defence to pass balls to the opposition so that they could score as many goals against us as they wanted to. Because they didn't want any other teams saying they wanted to leave the league they were always going to make life very hard for us in every possible way. What use would we be as a team on our own with nobody to play with unless we spend years and years renegotiating with every other team in the world about what size shin pads we are going to each use and what colour soap to have in the toilets ? It's obvious the league wants to keep us but they aren't going to give us any more leeway or else the other big teams in the league will also want to split so we could now turn this on its head and say....OK we will stay BUT....you guys helped to cause our wanting to leave so you need to listen a lot more to us from now on and if you do, we will stay and play with you nicely. Oh and my Auntie Mavis has changed her mind. Again.
There's no easy answer another vote would probably favour remain by 52% to 48%, leaving the country just as deeply divided with the same polarised views. The only good thing would be the least wealthy 90% of us would be better off.
As long as it’s the EEC and not what it morphed into. Read the Lisbon Treaty and see what is due to happen by 2022.
But this last referendum wasn’t fought on the real facts . We elected parties that took us down the roads we took that’s democracy we didn’t elect Euro sceptic parties .
We're not the French Nudge, that's what they do. But don't worry, the 61% of the population who didn't vote to leave last time will be on hand to put the fires out. I voted remain last time, even though I was/am concerned about immigration levels, mainly through fear of the unknown, apathy and 'if it aint broke, don't try to fix it', etc. . I'd probably do the same again, but the Brexit issue has made me realise how serious our membership of the EU is, yet how little attention I've paid to what's been happening. For example I never really appreciated the implications on the UK of admitting more and poorer countries to the union, neither was I aware of the possible moves to form an EU army. If we do end up remaining I hope I'll take more interest in future It doesn't help that we elect separate representatives in separate elections to Westminster and Brussels, which must make it impossible to have a co-ordinated government approach to Europe and European decision-making.
WTF, typical remoaners response. You lost, get over it!! If you believe in democracy why the **** would you want to remain part of EU. Let’s pay them £36 Billion a year, let them implement their laws on us, and have absolutely no say in any future desisions. What right minded country would do that??
The status quo should imo always Don't we get any say on EU decisions then? If the member states don't get a say then who is making the decisions?
I feel like we do it with London already. And, if given the choice, I'd probably rather Brussels took the decisions - I reckon they've invested more in the rest of the country than Westminster have over the past decade or so.
Some people seem to think that because citizens of other EU countries vote for their MEPs that it suddenly means we are ruled by others in an undemocratic way. The thing is, I vote for my MP for Kirkstall West and the MEP for the UK, that’s it. I don’t get a say on who is MP for every single other area in the UK but I don’t pretend it’s not democratic when those other MPs make decisions that affect me. No-one who doesn’t live in Maidenhead has ever voted for Theresa May. Tory voters voted for their MPs who voted for TM, just like we vote for our MEPs who vote for the EU leaders (I believe). The only true non democratic bit is the House of Lords which has nothing to do with the EU and is a pure UK thing.
The Daily Hatred changed editors, the vile Paul Dacre moved on. No idea who the latest vile editor of the Hatred is as I never even pick it up let along pay for the perversion of trying to fill my heart with fear and hate.
You wouldn’t believe how many people who disagreed and said they vote for the Leader of the party not local MP, when I said that when people were moaning about her being an unelected Prime Minister.
I suspect if there was a second referendum most people who voted to leave would still vote to leave but remain would win because more people would turn out this time and given the MSN for the last 2 years has been full of negative press most of the “new” voters would vote remain
I think it would still be tight, but I suspect a number of factors would influence a close remain result. Death of some leave voters. Right of 16 y/o's at last ref to be eligible to vote this time. Reduced apathy of youth vote that didn't turn out last time, potential apathy of older leave voters compared to first vote. I think it's clear views are entrenched despite more information being in the public domain. But I think this is certainly true of modern Britain. It's more typical for people to have an opinion or prejudice, and find news that feeds that perception, rather than take in other news to balance that opinion or be open minded.
