True, but I assume he felt he could leave it for the keeper to collect. So, the first instinct for defenders this season is to retain possession, but clear it when you feel you have to. That will lead to misjudgements like yesterday which don’t happen if the first instinct is to clear the ball, and keep it away from your goal as we did last season.
Keep seeing complaints about playing out from the back but I don’t recall one chance we conceded as a result, but I do remember our goal starting in Collins’ hands and involving two of our CBs. There’s definitely some nervy moments with it, like when Collins rolls it to Benson and he’s got three players on his back straight away, but we actually played the style really well yesterday. Much better than under Struber - I’m guessing because they have permission to still go long if needed
I think you are doing us a slightly disservice with your summary because we have not just thrown leads away , we held on to a lead against Coventry but more to the point we came back well at Cardiff after going behind & got a point & with the rub of the green we would have got a deserved 3 points, but it is early days yet & I think there are plenty of green chutes showing , we will see .
Surely this is time to dip into the loan market. Another forward and CM is a must. If Palmer, Benson or Woodrow gets injured we'd be screwed.
Not sure about Woodrow, think we’d cope ok once the Belgians are available and Morris is back. Agree on Benson and Palmer though, especially if it’s true Kane is going out on loan. Threadbare is an understatement.
Unless the plan is to sign a LWB and bring Styles back into the centre. But for me I'd leave him where he is. 2 signings and no more injuries and we'll be reyt.
I said it before and I'll say it again, we're badly missing Carlton Morris and his battling hold-up play. Maybe in the meantime (assuming no Belgians suddenly become available) we should play Victor instead of Clarke.
Oulare will, or should, be on the bench for the next game. Two weeks of training is enough to be available as an option. Hopefully we get positive news on Iseka next week as well.
We've looked ok in our games so far. The defence is solid enough, we're well organised and Styles/ Benson/ Palmer look quality... But we don't seem able to create chances unless it's on the break. We get the ball and don't know what to do with it. We're obviously missing Morris/ the belgians but it's worrying to watch. We'll be fine this year, but there's enough quality in the squad to be doing better than fine.
This is Struber like playing it out from the back. We were brilliant at it yesterday at times and never really in danger.
I certainly haven't given up on the manager, as he deserves much longer to prove himself. However, he has not won me over yet. Putting out basically the same first eleven, who are not really delivering (1 win in 5 - Glass half empty | 1 loss in 5 - Glass half full). Putting out a weak bench, when theoretically there are players available who could make it stronger (not including fitness / visa issues). The misuse of the above said bench: who, how and when they are utilized, comes to mind,
We're definitely a bottom 8 side based on what I've seen so far far. However, that could all change depending on the quality of the two Belgium lads and any other transfer business we do...
He definitely needs to be given time. He’s come into a team that’s lost Mowatt, Dike, Sollbauer as well as various back room staff. Add the fact that the replacement forward isn’t available yet and Morris’ injury. Not many would’ve come in and done much better.
But it was nowhere near Collins. Unless Sibbick had a complete brain fart and lost all sense of where he was then there was no excuse for not attacking that ball. Its not even close where you could have said the keeper should have come for it. 100% Sibbick's fault.
I completely agree. The point that I was trying, and to be fair, failing, to make, was that it looked like Sibbick had took an option that he felt would lead to us retaining possession. I hope in future he would just clear the ball.
We won't be in a relegation battle as I see it, but I can't see us pressing for the top 6 this season, unless these 2 Belgians step up to the plate & Morris can come back strongly. We are lacking in attack at the moment, but not conceding, even though Mads & J Williams are out. Nowt to be depressed about. If I were a Sheff Utd fan I'd be worried. Terrible start from them. Think Forest will improve, but Reading, Derby & Peterbro' would be my tips for the drop.
