I’m uncomfortable with this term, ‘basket case’..

As a white man I personally would never 'reclaim' that word in particular because it isnt mine to reclaim, and for the exact reasons you give above. Also, unfortunately, those people you refer often just can't stand the fact that black people are reclaiming the word to empower themselves. We live in a sad world. The white man creates this filthy word, and then gets angry when the black man plucks up the courage to throw it back in their face by owning it.
