Ref saw the contact but decided it wasn’t enough according to an article this morning. I’m not being funny but when you are focusing on balancing on one foot to finish with the other it takes no real contact to make you lose your footing.
It might not have been enough contact to send him to the ground, but it was enough to stop him turning and getting a clean shot in. The defender was stood behind Cole, and held him back with both hands. Unfortunately, refs don't give penalties to players that stay on their feet either, so you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.
It's starting to look like we might go the entire season without getting a penalty. It's quite remarkable, given how many penalty appeals we've had. Would be easier to explain if we were bottom and weren't getting into the oppo's box. Had to smirk slightly at Luke's reaction: "on another day you get that". What other day Luke? We've had absolutely nothing all season. Actually we've not had anything in over a calendar year.
And yet if there is the slightest contact at ground level a player can give the appearance of having tripped over a matchstick and a penalty will still be awarded.
