I thought it was a clear penalty. The Leeds player stole in on the blindside, took the ball and got clipped. I thought we'd got away with it given the ref's delay. It didn't make any difference to the outcome anyway. I'll have a look at it on the highlights but at the ground it looked a fair decision. And Winnall scored Wednesday's winner, just to make the day even worse.
Doubt Lindsey & Pinnock would’ve improved anything today. I thought our centre halves today were fantastic, especially Halme who looks quality.
If the ref is sure it’s a pen, he gives it straight away. Any doubt and surely he can’t give it. Well, he can at Oakwell obviously, as it confirms the expected result and no-one’s bothered...
The ref has to be sure in his own mind about his decisions yes but a slight delay while he has a think is irrelevant. If he genuinely thought it was a pen after pausing he did right to give it. Whether or not you or I think it was a pen is another matter
Well up until reading this I had no complaints from the back of the ponty. Looked a stone waller from my position. It looks like ill obviously be wrong when I see the highlights later. Makes it feel worse now that does.
The ref was miles behind play There is no way he could have seen it The only thing I can assume is the linesmen told him in his ear to give it which would explain the delay. That said shouldn’t the linesman flag?
When I started reffing we were always told if you have to think about it/ in 2 minds then it is not a penalty. I do not believe that the referee was clear in his mind that it was 100% a penalty therefore he had some doubt in his mind. Delaying your decision slightly is one thing, but it must’ve taken 12-15 seconds which is a relatively long time. The slightest hint of doubt should be no penalty.
My Leeds supporting associate was in the away end and he and about 10 others around him all said that it was never a penalty. He also told me before the game that the same player goes down very easy, I rest my case
Watched it again. Looks like I need to go to specsavers because it still looks nailed on to me. I don't understand the position that it isn't a penalty. I thought that's what a foul in the box is. Unless you're claiming Halme didn't trip him which is also a position I don't understand. Genuinely confused.
Looks to me like he clearly got the ball before leeds player fell over. We watched it quite a few times and I don’t understand how anyone could see it as a penalty Maybe I need to go to spec savers too
It’s pretty hard to tell from that angle but it looks like the Leeds player lays it off for his team mate & Halme just catches him after the ball has gone. If Halme wins that ball I’m pretty certain it’s not going in that direction
2 games this season already that we have pens given against us but yet Wilks was wrestled to the ground on one of the corners today and we got nowt yet down the other end soft ones get given every other game.
I thought halme played well today, didnt think he did much wrong handled a 10million pound striker for most of the game. Even lindsay was clumsy at times Burnley in the f.a cup.
Two blokes going for the same ball and they clash. See it all over the pitch and it doesn't always result in a foul. From that clip you can't see who gets to the ball first. From my seat in East stand lower I couldn't tell. From that I deduce that it wasn't obvious.
Having watched the Sky 15 minute highlight package, there are 2 clear penalties from corners that the ref fails to give for Barnsley. Wilks is wrestled to the ground for one and then Andersen is clearly fouled with the ref looking straight at him, Andersen appeals and cannot believe the ref gives nothing. It's about time the club started kicking up a fuss, sending videos to the ref's association etc, otherwise this will continue all season, just as it has in previous Championship seasons. We're too accepting of the situation and too nice.
Leeds got that own decision because of the fans behind the goal. Ours have given in trying for obvious reasons. Think someone said since 2016 we have had one pen in the championship whilst the away sides have had 13.
And Winnall missed it! The stats are stark! Refs are quick to give pens against us but don’t even give us stonewallers. The previous penalty v Charlton came a few minutes after a clear handball that wasn’t given for us.
