When I worra lad there were three top level referees from Barnsley (assuming my memory isn't playing tricks with me), Arthur Holland, Harold Hackney and Keith Styles.
I Reffed for about 15 years in the Barnsley leagues and the County Senior League. Got the call-up for the Northern Counties East League and damaged knee ligaments in pre-season. The upside to that was watching the reds in the Prem leasgue. also served on the Committee of Barnsley RA for a few years.
Hi Terry, Ok thanks, I keep taking the tablets! You Ok? Promised myself if the Reds got relegated I wasn't going again! But couldn't resist the cheap season tickets!
I once refereed a local final at Oakwell with Harold Hackney on one line and Arthur Holland on the other. Great days. A lot of job satisfaction from refereeing
The Officers included: Dave Phillips,Trelford Mills, Mick Bates. The Committee included: Mel Smart, Dave Booth, Ron Ledger, KeV Barraclough, Tony White, amongst others.
He was on a Witness Protection scheme? Blimey! I knew referees have taken some stick over the years, but I never realised it had got as bad as that!
Remember Don Mellor reffing, you could kick 7 bells out of each other, but 1st sign of any swearing and he was on ya like a ton of bricks
Did Ron Ledger work in the coal industry - his name rings a bell - I worked as an auditor in the Coal Industry -sorry I can't be more specific
I feel so thick for not knowing your name, mate. Please forgive my ignorance and I mean no disrespect.
