    James Cryne is still here.

Also, we understand how valuable he is when fit, whilst other teams might just see him as someone who hasn’t kicked a ball for nearly three years.

Maybe he was guaranteed game time?

I’ve been thinking about how we might be able to hang onto James in the longer term. Given his age, unfortunate injury record and the present state of football it unlikely that he will command anything like his current contract in future. Made me wonder whether he might be tempted with a player coaching position for us that would be financially within our reach?

Something that might work in our favour is that the wages in the Premier League are such that Matty James is probably completely financially secure. Chances are he never needs to play football or do any other sort of work, ever again. So if he enjoys playing football and wants to continue at a reasonably high level, it makes very little practical difference to him whether he's earning 10k a week at Barnsley, or 20k a week at Reading. Even 10k a week is still an immense amount of money, and more to the point an immense amount of money that he probably doesn't particularly need.

He was driving us forward in that first half. He kept finding little pockets of space in midfield and making that transition from defence to attack. It's something we've been crying out for, for quite some time. Styles isn't bad at doing it and Mowatt has different strengths. It's no coincidence that James kept picking up the ball in acres of space in the middle of the park. He's a very good footballer. We just need to keep him fit.
