Fair comment this. Aston Villa won the league championship in 1980/81 and used 14 players over 42 games.

Which players do you think are good enough? There is an abject lack of quality right through the squad

All the above is not wrong but you are commenting on the previous coach's way of playing which will now change with our new man in charge backed by our new owners, he just needs to get to know what he's got and how best to play them and hopefully he can do that before its too late.

Mcburnie, Moore, yiadom, pinnilos, lyndsay, Williams ready as now, by playing them correctly Mallan, Moncur will come good, hammill isgrove potts will try and can give something we know Jackson and Pinnock have been missed and if Davies can get a bit of form back then it's not looking to bad. For me though it's formation and getting away from 442 and the even more negative 4141 then these players will perform better and instill in to them some belief.

It's simple... Our first intention/bottom line is to bring through cheaper, younger players and sell them on. And not to stay in the division. Staying up or promotion is an afterthought... the plan..
Here comes the new boss, same as the old boss..

Moore, Moncur, & Potts will never come good while ever I’ve got a hole in my arse. Not at this level anyway.

I don't agree but no worries, the beauty is over the coming weeks we will see.

Brentford were 35 million quid in debt at one point.

But this is exactly the point of my post.

How do we pull ourselves closer without chucking money at it?

Did I say that was our ambition? I'm sure our ambition is to play as high as possible. Question is how do we plan to achieve that?

I'm talking about similar or historically worse clubs that we are lagging behind, and what we have to do to improve ourselves.

Exactly. We were more than halfway there, having pretty much built a top half championship side on a shoestring. If we'd kept what we had and added to it then I have no doubt that we'd be challenging for the playoffs. But, for whatever reason (and I know there are a few, some of which are legitimate) we went back to square one.

I just don't get that. What a monumental waste of time and effort it would be on Chien Lee's part to buy us just to have us bobbing up and down between League One and the Championship.

Spot on. As I said the other day, that is just pie in the sky, won't work on its own and the fans will just get sick to death of it.

But this is why I started this thread. For debate.

You say that about fitness, but it said on telly that the first thing hecky did at Leeds was get them running because they weren't fit enough.

Come on mate, we're struggling, we've fallen behind similar or smaller clubs and even Burton, with league 2 crowds are currently sitting above us in the league.

Just "start playing better" is probably worst answer to my question.

I'm trying to inspire a debate.

We all moan. Heres our chance to put forward sensible answers to how we can improve as a club without chucking silly money at the job.

How do you stop players leaving though without becoming a bigger club yourself?

You've got to have the bucks to match what's been offered elsewhere, but when the only way to make those bucks is to sell your best players then you're fecked.

The thing is It's way too early to judge. The new board have been in place barely three months, the manager a week. All we have to go on is what they've said they're going to do rather than what they've done.
If, for some bizarre reason, they've bought us to do nothing different then the plan, for good or ill, is all we've got. I just can't believe they've bought a club that was ticking along ok financially with the odd good year to subsidise the bad ones to do nothing with it.
Unfortunately patience is going to be required on everyone's part.

To improve ourselves we need look at the model of clubs like Burnley , Swansea , Bournemouth etc because that's a successful model to follow . If it means paying our better players astronomical amounts to stay then so be it because flogging them is sometimes a false economy . The lack of ambition of some of our fans does my head in , some are happier when we're in league 1 cos then they say 'we're a big club in that league' and 'at least we'll see some wins' . The Championship is bang average this year and if we get relegated the whole club should truly be ashamed .

Would you really like us to become a hobby club like Bournemouth?
