Totally agree with you, there are some fans with a very short memory , he was a class act & has more quality in one leg than half of the championship players could only dream of, he was totally professional throughout his time with us, would have him back at a breath
Maybe I need to clarifi my point if we base the affection for ex players purely on there record for the club then Winnall should be up there with Hourihane 41goals in 97 apps and I never once thought when he pulled on the red shirt he gave anything less then 100%. As far as club legend in my opinion I think you need to split it into two groups post and pre Bosman ruling pre the clubs had the power now it's the players. I am sorry if my comments came across as telling people what to think that certainly wasn't my intention I was genuinely interested as why he was held in such regard to me they are all ex players but I am clearly in the minority.
Hourihane was outstanding for us right from the off. Don’t get me wrong he became a better all round player when he dropped deeper & played in a midfield two but he was scoring & assisting for fun in his first season for us when he mainly played as a no. 10 or on the left of a midfield 3 like he did for Swansea the other night. Are we all forgetting he almost scored with a set piece the other night? Hit the bar with a free kick. He’s still a very good championship player.
Conor is a class act on and off the pitch. It’s not even up for debate. I’d love him back if Mowatt leaves but sadly his wages will be too high. a lot of our game is based on set pieces and Conor is the best in the business.
I know. He still nearly scored from putting in a dangerous ball like Mowatt did with the corner a few weeks back
