    did you do the Falklands ? I remember the Hercules squadron bar down there "Albert Square"

    Twice but I was down there both times flying on Chinooks then back to Hercs in 1990. Thanks for making the connection and asking.

    At Kelly’s Garden aka Bomb Alley tried not to go down town except for air tests when we needed a solid runway. Also hated the Coastels— loved the bush life at San Carlos too much.

    Mate of mine from Donny was a Welding inspector and he volunteered to go to
    the Falklands to work on the buildings that were to eventually form our troops Garrison. Told
    the lads in the pub when he got back, it was very very bleak down there , tempered by the fact that he
    made an absolute fortune, all of it tax free if I recall. Just seen on the news that upwards of 80
    veterans have taken their own life as a result of PTSD. You guys deserve the
    utmost respect for your dedicated and selfless service, as do all members of our military
    forces who have down the years, stoically defended our country through various armed conflicts.

    I was there in '85, got a cabby in a Herc taking pictures of Russian 'fishing' trawlers - good day out
