I'm not sure what the town centre was like the last time you were here so if you were here at all while the big yellow temporary market was here then yeah it's there. If not then the easiest way to explain is to say it's opposite the bus station where the outdoor market was. If you walk down midland street towards the market it's right in front of you. The image here (a cgi mock up) is taken from roughly the area where the mushroom seating area used to be or from on the corner of Littlewoods. The red line is Eldon street, blue Square is roughly where the Grogger's rest was and yellow is roughly where the block of shops in the corner of the outside market was. It's going to be run by Cineworld and has I think 9 screens in it. The building across Eldon street is a new bowling alley with restaurants on the ground floor
Now that's a totally different question. I'm surprised that Cineworld haven't pulled out yet but maybe they've sunk too much money into it. With the way people are demanding zero deaths from viruses I can't imagine any cinema will ever be allowed to open without taking away at least every second seat and I can't see how they will be allowed to open in winter at all
A multiplex in Barnsley was always a big risk so I wouldn't be surprised to find that Cineworld had got the cinema completely rent free for the first few years anyway and if they hadn't then I'd definitely not be surprised to find that they threatened/threaten to pull out unless they do get it rent free and if that's the case it would make it more likely to open.
I just can't see them even kitting it out when they're talking about never reopening already functioning theatres.
I guess that would depend on the rent at functioning ones and just how much they pay and also on how much of the kit out they're responsible for or how much the council is. You're right though, it's certainly not nailed on and wouldn't be a surprise at all if they didn't open it. Barnsley college will have some cracking lecture theatres
