Yes I did go. No I won’t stroll on. Hey Jude is a great song of its time - I just don’t like it at Barnsley games. Too many others use it, Wednesday as an example. Shoot me. They could have played whatever they liked at the end of the game yesterday and the atmosphere would have been much the same. We all left buzzing after a great result and performance. But if the majority want Hey Jude, so be it. I can’t see it going down as well after a Tuesday night 0-0 draw and a crowd of 9500. I probably prefer it to that Bon Jovi album track we usually walk away to though to be fair. And I’m not on my own in wanting to retain Timerider at the start of the game. It’s cack, but no more cack than z cars, or the local hero theme, and certainly not the liquidator. If Everton, Newcastle or Chelsea got rid of them there’d be hell on. Absolutely nobody else is associated to Cocoon by Timerider. Not many can even remember The Hitman and Her to associate it to anything else. It’s a bit crap. Dated. But it’s ours. A lot of people moan about it, but if they gave a list of five or ten tunes to pick from for the players to walk out to including cocoon, and put it to a fan vote, it would win by a landslide. Plenty have said they want something different - but there is no agreement what. They did get rid at one point and we had Heroes by Bowie. It soon came back, due to fan demand. And I’ll reiterate, if they start rolling out sweet Caroline, which is just about next in line in the game of sports song bingo, then we might as well all give up. Might as well have chase the sun like the darts and get rid of any originality. Although actually, that would have gone down as well if not better than hey Jude did after the game. Everyone knows it. (Even if not what it’s called).
