But that makes absolutely no sense

You are of the opinion that the majority should be forced to wear a mask in order to protect the vulnerable but you do not think it is fair to force the vulnerable to wear a mask to keep themselves alive. Where is the logic?

Your argument relies on the premise that mask wearing is there solely to protect the vulnerable which it clearly isn’t. If it was then why would the government say otherwise?
If it is to protect the vulnerable why would the the government not say so?
Anyway we have danced around this one long enough and I will not be responding any further, but do have your two pennies worth.

Correct. These measures have been to protect the young and healthy with a tiny chance of dying. It's crazy to think that we are protecting those who are vulnerable to covid-19. The plan all along has been kill off those vulnerable to it

The most bizarre thing I've read in here

Many of those vulnerable people are physically unable to wear a mask and have medical exemptions. You are wearing a mask to help to protect those that can't.

I think selfless, unselfish acts are beyond some people. They are too self absorbed. Self, self, self.

What I find bizarre is the list of people exempt from wearing a mask is those most at risk of dying if they catch Covid. For example if you have asthma you don't have to wear a mask, but people with asthma are at high risk of serious harm if they catch Covid 19. So they should either wear a mask which will be uncomfortable for them (hence why they are exempt) or stay shielding at home. If I had asthma I wouldn't be out shopping without a mask using the exemption card.

Think of it like the stupid Herd Immunity strategy that you were advocating.

It only works if everyone wears a mask. It's the same logic as Anti-Vaxxers use. "I'm healthy why should I have the vaccine" - It's to protect the population as a whole.

Those with severe asthma are more likely to have an adverse medical effect from wearing a mask than those without (see also COPD, and other lung problems). If everyone else wears a mask, maintains social distance and washes their hands (etc) then those who are unable to wear one for medical reasons are less likely to be infected while outside.

If you need a medical expemption to not wear a mask then you shouldnt be coming into direct contact with someone without one right?

The vulnerable are on stay home notice in UK?

    Or out and about?

Why would folk put themselves in a situation that exposed themselves to a potentially life threatening illness?

Tell that to the government, who are lifting shielding - and therefore support - for the vulnerable from 1 August.

Wish I could like this more than once.

The government are lifting shielding, so those who are vulnerable will have to start going out and about increasing their risk. If we all wear masks it reduces their risk to (hopefully) more manageable levels.

You make a valid point. There are absolutely real reasons why people are unable to wear a mask.

They should be free of judgement for that. They won’t be, but they should. The problem is that people that just don’t want to wear one will make up excuses. The fact that there are people that are genuinely unable means that those of us that are able to wear one must do so. Herd Immunity.

That is my position. I will wear one as I am a rule taker, but I'm partly deaf and it puts me on edge when I can't see peoples facial reactions. The reactions give me a level of confirmation of what I have heard.

I will still do the weekly shop, but as for any visits to Meadowhall etc I'll give it a wide berth. I just hope that more people are encouraged to do non essential shopping than are put off or the economic future will be dire.
