Hmm, my thoughts as well. All I can say is he must do a lot of the dirty, unnoticed stuff that I keep missing because I'd sooner have Russell in there instead of him. He's got some talent, no doubt, but we have competition there now.

I was the one who slagged him at half time. He was good second half but I stand by it as a general comment, he's very slow and I don't think he has enough quality to compensate for it.

If we have to choose which of Kane and Connell to drop for Russell at some point, then it's Kane every day of the week.

I can agree with that because I think Connell is outstanding, but I must admit I'm really surprised a few people don't rate Kane. He was poor for us previously, but after a slow start this season I think he's been very, very good, excellent in some games. He seems to be working a lot harder under Duff so have to commend him for that. I think some people might not rate him as highly due to his physical presence (even though I dont think its as bad as before), i.e, seemed to get knocked off ball easily and not very quick at all. I really do think he's improved no end under Duff though. The sheer work rate from him is a big compliment to Duff & his staff

I think Kane had a very good second half. In fact moving further right might have helped him in that.

I thought he was ok first half but nothing spectacular. He also still looks like he’s running through treacle at times.

As I say, much better second half. As was Devante Cole. Best 45 minutes for both of them for a while I’d say.

Williams was my man of the match though.

According to Huddersfield fans Russell is the slowest player they’ve ever seen. Opinions eh? And I suppose it’s only natural that we have to have someone to slag off.

I'm not scapegoating him for no reason. I just don't think he's a particularly good footballer.

By your own admission you were 'slagging him off'. Why scapegoat him anyway? He's an important part of a team that is exceeding most people's expectations and, presumably, Duff thinks he's quite a good footballer. Thankfully.

You might want to look up the definition of scapegoat. Saying you don't think someone is good isn't scapegoating them.

had to join in this ,I actually agree with Mansfield on something, think Kane will always pick the easy pass, will still cheer him on, but infuriates me how many little side foot passes he does when a through ball is on

Perhaps you do given your statement in the post above above "I'm not scapegoating him for no reason. I just don't think he's a particularly good footballer". Unless I'm misinterpreting the double-negative.
    Let's just agree to disagree.

Interesting thread this FWIW I thought Watters aside everyone had a good game. Kane has played well the last few games as has Cole But today I agreed with the official choice of Williams as MotM
As an aside the guy who runs my Dads local chippy is a Huddersfield fan and he is seriously unimpressed they got rid of Russel he thinks we’ve got an excellent player there and thinks they should have kept and played him

My opinion on Herbie kane is 'meh'. He doesn't excite me, never seems to do anything spectacular, often infuriates me, but never seems to really let us down. He's one of those players who should be easily replaceable and in a couple of years people will have forgotten him largely but at the same time he's reliable

Interesting, and I'm not saying I disagree. However, the Oxford commentators last week were talking about him as if he was Messi.

I just don't see it personally. The only one with any creative flair for me is Connell. Kane reminds me very much of all the others we've had in midfield over the years who have performed adequately, done a job, but never really stood out.

I meant it as in I'm not scapegoating him at all, not that I'm justifiably scapegoating him.

Whereas I see Connell as a very solid defensive midfielder who doesn't possess much in the way of creative flair. It is fair to say perhaps, that our team, and its style of play, is functional rather than exciting. Probably one of the main reasons why the atmosphere is so flat. We certainly don't have that special Hammill-type player at present. Perhaps Russell might bring something different.

    OK. Obviously misinterpreted then.
