I think this is really positive stuff. The investment levels in the UK over the last 20+ years have been really low, which has fed into our weak productivity growth and poor economic performance. We need to invest and build, and that's what this is. Some actual medium to long term planning!

There's more examples of this they've announced - Heathrow's 3rd runway, Sizewell C and the new carbon capture and solar plants. I'm particularly keen on these transport projects in the north as they're sorely needed!

    100%!

The HS2 cancellation was pretty shocking. I think there's two lessons from it:
    • The way we go about these projects is inefficient and costs too much - we need to do better.
    • Major infrastructure projects need to be protected from the whims of government. HS2 had 15 years of funding, planning and support, but was cancelled by Sunak as an attempt to save his reputation - "not afraid to take the tough decisions". A PM that we didn't choose taking one of the most extreme examples of short term decision making, for his own benefit.

You say they have lost all control of the boats?. I have just been reading that there has not been 1 boat crossing this month, not a mention on the right-wing media, will someone tell Farage and his gang of misfits,

I doubt that about 1200 crossed in one day at the beginning of the month.

Think you`ll find that was the last day of May, was wrote about on June 1st.

400 arrived on 6 boats recorded on 11th June.

I think the lack of boat crossing coverage highlights the shocking biases of the majority of our media. Zero coverage of increased returns or increased processing too. Similarly with positive economic news, it gets a slight mention, but then projects it will get worse in their opinion. That's not fact based independent news.

It was quite impressive to see live media reporting dancing on the head of a pin after the spending announcement to spin negatives after their initial perceptions of what would happen were wrong. Sky even used AI to guess what might be announced which was miles out.

There are plenty of things the latest govt could have done better, but they are at least trying to govern like grown ups to a large degree, something the tories completely forgot how to do from 2016 onwards.

Exactly I know that was end of may but I doubted like the poster I replied to said that they hadn't been one this month. Kiers going to get to grips with the people smugglers he said before he was elected.

How can you say ‘exactly’ to a post highlighting your mistake and say you knew it was May? You said 1200 crossed at the beginning of the month. They didn’t.

I don’t like Labour as a rule but I’ve enjoyed the u turn on pensioners heating brass as it shows theyve realised that something was wrong and they’ve had the nads to address it. Cut off is still too high but they may address that later to again adjust to the right thing

OK the link I posted was from the 1st of this month. It referred to 1200 crossing 2 days earlier. I was saying I doubt they all just stopped come June.

There was a piece yesterday run by mainstream media stating first crossings of the month had taken place. So it was in the public domain, for those who are objective that walk among us.

it’s virtually impossible to ‘bankrupt’ a fiat currency producing nation.

And if you are going to cut in work disability benefits that will kill people run the impact assessments first and make them public. Of course they have the impact assessments and it shows how devastating cutting the benefits will be which is why they are too scared to do so.

one benefit you could cut / remove would be working tax credit. Raise the minimum wage and use the money saved to allow SME’s to pay the increased NWM and stop us subsidising FTSE 100 companies like Capita that pay the CEo 12 million but not their employees a living wage.

I'm sure we could do a better job at controlling our borders other countries do. Tories failed, starmer talked the talk.. then failed.

The best way to control our borders is to provide safe and legal routes into the country that asylum seekers can take. They can then be processed and a decision made. I think far less people would be likely to risk their lives on dinghys crossing one of the most dangerous shipping routes in the world if there were safe and legal methods of coming here.

It's been done to a death, just providing the man who said no ones crossed this month with abit more bad news. Kiers the man who said he would sort it and crack down on people smugglers etc not me.
