Also to add to this . Proper hard footballers who played the game. Not the ref . I lost count how many players ,( from both teams) last night threw themselves to the ground as soon as they were touched to buy a foul ,to slow the game down. It was good to see the ref occasionally waved play on ,noticed on one occasion left Grimsby stranded. Modern football. But f@#, ing stinks.
The more time passes, the more outrageous this seems. The misses I don't have much opinion on either way - someone is always going to miss a penalty (eventually) - but for a £74m striker earning over £8m a year to be the last outfield player to take a penalty against League Two opposition is just embarrassing, isn't it? Everyone has days at work where the sh*t hits the fan and we have to step up, scary though it can be. I'd be ashamed of myself, hiding like that. But even that pales into insignificance next to a manager who doesn't even watch the conclusion of a game for which he was in charge of a £1bn squad. He's a grown man being paid millions of pounds a year to hold a prominent, senior position at one of the biggest football clubs in the world, and he can't even watch? How pathetic is that?
