Last time we played Brighton in the League Cup was also in the 3rd round in 1981. We won that one 4-1, before beating Man City at home, then losing the reply against Liverpool...
Manure won't be bothered they'll be able to concentrate on their European campaign now. Oh wait a minute they haven't got a European campaign to concentrate on have they.
Thats about my view. £75m striker hiding in 10th position and how on Earth can a manager expect his players to have the bottle to take penalties when he's such a massive fanny that he can't even watch them. Its become an amusing graveyard for talent.
Although it seems mad to compare us to Man United i think we have a lot in common in recent years, an obssesion with playing a specific system for the sake of it. Especially 3 at the back which is absolute garbage if you want to dominate teams, probably explains why we were so good away but so crap at home. United will be fine once they accept they need a manager who gets the best out of their team and a get a midfielder who can run and progress the ball, just like we seemed to have learned.
Brighton were in the First Division then and had beaten Spurs at White Hart Lane three days earlier. For the information of our younger fans, in those days top clubs played their strongest team in the League Cup, unlike nowadays, which makes our 4-1 win all the more impressive. The 1st and 2nd rounds were played over two legs. We beat Peterborough 9-2 on aggregate in Round 1, Swansea ( who were up at the top of Division One) 3-2 on aggregate in Round 2.
I actually think teams are starting to play their stronger sides again, which is nice. One good thing about Pep is, hes always respected it enough to play a strong XI.
