Pinnock, Moore, cavare, Wilks probably some of the worst deals in a long time. All in one season! Pinnock- far too low(didn't know if another offer would come in) £ signs Moore- no replacement, £ signs Cavare- league 1 team of the season. Had his faults but was still the best fullback we had. Why not persevere just as we did with other players? Wilks- wasn't great but other players got a chance after playing just as poorly. Sold to a championship rival when we needed every available option, bizarre.
You're obviously entitled to your opinion, but Cavare for me wasn't even in the top 4 best full backs at the club. It's funny how we all see it differently though.
Woodrow was definitely Bradshaw’s replacement though and is a far better player than Bradshaw will ever be. One of the best deals we’ve done is getting over £1m for Bradshaw and spending less on Woodrow.
For me he had a good season in league one and never got a chance in the championship. Miles ahead of say ben William's so not sure how he was 4tb best at the club when he got in the league one team of the season.
How was he his replacement? They were strike partners for 6 months. It's like how Boris claimed that he was setting on 18,000 new nurses when in actual fact they were existing nurses
Honestly, I thought he was average in league 1. Clumsy, caught in possession, went on these marauding runs that everybody got excited for, and eventually would run the ball out of play, or play a cross over the crossbar. Didn't ever look up to the championship in either spell he had in that league. The game against Middlesbrough where he basically let the attacker go round him was the final straw for me. I prefer Ben Williams, defensively at least, but I wouldn't say he's up to the championship yet either. It's an area we've needed strengthening in for the past three seasons, since Yiadom left.
Yeah I don't think many rated him so I'm definitely in the minority but i think in this system with the 3 centre backs he would have been a perfect choice, physicality and height for the centre back role and also his attacking ability.
Yes I have. Too many W's. Woodrow was Bradshaw's replacement and one of the few times we've got it right in having a replacement before allowing a player to leave. Winnall was the one we didn't replace adequately
Moore... great player. we loved what he did... then he got the head-knock. We got used to the team without him. Months and months went by... half a season went by. why didn't Moore (honestly, I don't recollect his first name at this time) why didn't he force himself back into the fight? Where was his heart? Yes we all know how serious a head-knock is... but fook it... where is the desire? Good escape business to let him go. (five minutes on and his first name still hasn't dropped in to my mind)
I can't offer any real opinion on the sales of players in this thread for obvious reasons. But I can point out that we are in the second tier with a promising young squad, a handful of experienced players and because of the many ins and outs over the timeframe referred to, we are a financially stable club living within its means unlike most of our competitors, and thus are able to offer the cheapest ticket prices to fans. New season upon us, new hope etc. Here's to positivity!!!!
Keifer ... Keefer... who the **** names their son keifer. its how he was brought up.. that's why he's a bottler..
I was fvcking raging when we sold Potts. You fvcking small-time b&stards, you've done it again. As it is, we got away with it, and in hindsight it looks like good business.
Potts looked very handy in L1, but the abuse he got the season before was incredible. Personally I thought he was OK but not outstanding. Even at the time, I thought it was silly money that Preston were offering for overall quite a limited player. My only concern was that it might upset the balance of the team. Luckily, it didn't.
All opinions I suppose he was good in league one and ever present in the best defence in the league his assist stats and performances were noticed and got him into the team of the season. He was a little unorthodox at times and could lose his head but he was definitely our best full back that season. I'm not sure what qualities puts ben William's ahead of him the last full game William's played he cost us 3 goals v stoke if that was cavare pitch forks would be well and surely out.
Which three goals did he cost us? Genuine question. For the record, I thought Dimi was a great bloke. Such a unique character. And going forward he was frightening to watch at times. Even in defence, he could be very good. But it was all about attitude I'm afraid. If Dimi was up for it, great. But if not.... But yeah, which of the four goals at Stoke were Ben Williams' fault?
Agree. great gong forward but horrendous at tracking back. We conceded some goals because of that inability and causing the rest of the defence to be dragged all over. Diaby especially. to cover for him having to leave his own man.
