Most of those strikers were sh|te. Rather go into season with 1 striker than watters.

Farrell will come good the more he's involved, let's not make the same mistake like we did with Marshy by freezing him out.. (taking about the situation not the player)
Yes I'd have liked to have signed an hairy arsed striker who was a battering ram of a forward that said I'm happy with the window and as for the players mentioned who can play across the front line, how can anyone say they can't play a 9 role, when we haven't seen them play in that role
No doubt Conor, will be disappointed that we havent got him another striker but hes said on more than one occasion hed be happy if we didnt lose anyone which it looks like we havent
    In Conor we trust.
Putting the negativity to one side for a change, I Personally think its been one of the best windows for some time

Has Russell played a game up front in his career?

Not much competition though is there, seeing as they've largely all been disastrous?

    This is true, however:

    a) It's the beginning of the season when players are most fresh

    b) None of them are currently injured

    c) We haven't played much midweek yet (McGoldrick has been rested in the Cup)

When there's Stevenage away on a Tuesday in between 2 Saturday games, is McGoldrick going to play? If not, it's DKD up front and then Cleary in? And then what are the bench options? Farrell and Farrugia? It's not ideal, let's be honest.

Reminds me of the sIgN a StRiKeR after the 7-0 v Port Vale when we then went on to prove we should have signed one… :D

this is how I see it. Very surprised we haven’t at least brought someone in on loan as we have exposed ourselves to a risk unnecessarily

Mcgoldrick and DKD are definitely strikers imho however. Not sure how else they could be described as per a few other posts?

it sounds like the recruitment team (inc CH) are being very picky and won’t just sign anyone which is a good thing, but as I say, we are a bit exposed here. I guess it means Farrell will get some game time. He looks very raw to me, I dunno maybe that’s where we are at right now.

It definitely has in terms of not losing anyone and we’ve made some very decent signings. Maybe I’m being greedy but just one more signing would’ve topped things off.
McAtee would’ve been a brilliant bit of business as he could’ve played anywhere across the front three. Thinking a deal had been done only for it to collapse at the death is the biggest disappointment.

It sounds like they wanted to sell him and we wanted to loan him.

given he cost them a million quid , I can understand why we wouldn’t want to commit to that given our financial constraints

frustrating as you say he would have fitted in great

Forget he can play here and he can play there. We needed a defender and a striker and got one.

Look at every other club in that top 10. They will have 4 at least.

Its not been negative. Its a fact. McGoldrick wont play Saturday Tuesday every week. Were one injury away from all the hard work crumbling.

Thats why you shouldnt leave your signings to the last minute.

We have a great squad. Just a striker short.

Russell, Cleary, Jalo, Farrugia arent the answer in that position. If they were they would be playing it.

That’s my point though - like you I agree both Didzy and DKD should start, and they’ve probably both been told they will when fit - so anyone we were trying to get in on loan would be on the bench. How do you sell it to prospective player?

“Come to Barnsley to further your career, but other then starts in the Micky mouse cups, hopefully your first team action will be limited to a few minutes at the end of games when players tire, and you’ll start if we are unfortunate to get injuries to first choice striker or he gets suspended, other then that you’ll be sat on the bench each game.”

No matter how many players we enquired about, I can’t see them queueing round the block for this scenario.

The reasons coming from Bolton end of us not willing to commit to buy at end is a bit weird from their perspective.
He is clearly not in their plans and is surplus to requirements and given the last minute aspect of it collapsing they couldn’t get him into somewhere else so you’d have thought they would agree to a loan with a view of taking him off their books and if he played well either us or someone else would sign him.

My thoughts too. His value will be depreciated by Jan, even more so by end of season if he's barely played. If he came here, we pay all his wages, and he smashes it, likelihood is Bolton could have got even more money.

We’ve clearly tried to get one in with the reported interest in Ballard and McAtee. I assume he got offered more money at Orient and I can understand our position with McAtee.

I agree it leaves us a bit light but if I was Leo Farrell I’d be buzzing today. Sometimes a young player needs to be given an opportunity (as happened with Bland playing full back) and the lad has a massive one now. I really hope he can take it for his benefit and our own.

Looks like after Ballard from Southampton choosing Orient we had no play b.
A lot of hot air about McAtee. If we were really serious, with the amount of forwards on Boltons books and fact that they let Dion Charles go to same division rivals Huddersfield.. if we'd have been in fact serious and gone in with pound notes he would now be a Barnsley player.
We've kept our best players which is excellent.. I'd guess that's more to do with Conor than anything from upstairs. If we can keep those said best players fit we'll be ok, top six should be achievable.. If we'd added quality then actually top two..
But heyho that should please those with a 'At least we have a club' mindset..

There’s still the chance to sign a player out of contract, which we may do.

We had 4/5 strikers before because we played 2 up front. We aren't playing 2 up front anymore so only need 2/3 and who realistically is going to join knowing they will just be a 3rd choice back up.

Worst case if we get an injury, there are still free agents out there. Do not get this overreaction at all.

Ok….so every team who plays 1x up top only needs 1x backup option?

Explain this Jake, both Didzy and DKD start every week. Where’s the back up option?

It’s getting a bit boring tbh explaining this as people haven’t read the thread properly.

I’m not bashing the transfer window.

I’m bashing the deadline day as to me, it’s clear and obvious that we needed an extra one in up top.

I’ll say it again for the last time……we are 2-1 down in and out DKD is injured. Didzy is blowing and needs to come off as he’s knackered and it ain’t happening up top. Who do you put on?

If people are ok with going all season with only 2x strikers then that’s fair enough. Your opinions.

Me…..I want to see this team get out of this league.

To do that, you need strikers. Not just 1. Not just 2.

3 at a bare minimum to cover the season.

Again…..the window has been a good one.

The glaring miss of not adding up top has scuppered a fantastic window.

I hope it doesn’t cost us.
