On the contrary, not selling any of those players in this window would be a genuine cause for further criticism, in my view. The season is pretty much lost and, barring an absolute miracle beyond anything we've seen in recent years, we're destined to be relegated. In those circumstances, hanging on to all your prize assets only results in diminishing their sale value further, as the remaining contracts lengths shorten, whilst incurring another 6 months or so of paying the wages of the likely higher earners at the club. Logically, they should be looking to cash in on at least one of those assets, and use some of the money generated to start preparing for a League One campaign. Incoming transfer activity is the more important factor in this window, and it's becoming increasingly clear that this isn't going to happen until resources are freed up to fund it. The longer this goes on, the more likely that any incoming activity is the last-minute, desperate throw of the dice type of transaction (e.g. Remy Vita in the previous window). To be clear, that's a very different scenario to having a fire-sale where all of the 'names in the frame' are sold in a single window, which would undoubtedly deserve criticism as being a sure sign of a club in financial distress, but failing to sell any of them in this window, at a time when we're pretty much resigned to someone leaving and the inevitability of relegation, would also deserve significant criticism. It would be different if retaining all of those players was likely to make a meaningful difference to the outcome of our season, which is why this is different to retaining Mowatt last year and allowing his contract to run down. However, we've had six months of evidence under two head coaches that the performances of these players isn't likely to be a difference maker this time around.
I'm not mystified in the slightest. They decided to change a successful style of play, which most of the division found awkward to counteract, because it was adversely affecting player trading.
The trouble with that Sheriff is they'll be damned if they do and damned if they don't.From a business point of view the club may have to sell to balance the books but from a supporters point of view fans want to see at least some effort to save the season.
A consequence of the actions they've taken to date to leave us in the state where nothing in this window has any meaningful impact on the outcome of the league season.
Maybe so but in supporters eyes to throw in the white flag now wouldn't go down well at all in my opinion.
Just accept relegation. We're in this position because the players aren't good enough. Lots of variables came into our favour last season. The fact remains that the 19/20 and 21/22 teams just aren't good enough. I'm not surprised that no one wants these players. I was in genuine shock when Woodrow was linked with West Brom.
So you'd like them to continue subsidising all our highest earners, in what is essentially a lost cause, while their value diminishes further, and in the knowledge that they still won't be playing for us when the new season kicks off in League One? You'd praise them for doing this, when doing so would worsen our overall financial position, which already appears precarious?
No! we received £1M for Butterfield from Norwich City after he had that bad knee injury caused by Michael Brown, there was strong talk of getting £2M for him before that.
2 head coaches prior to the one we've now got and the one previously sacked they've picked up fees on their departures but fail to champion that in the public domain....doesn't suit their agenda....of woe christ woe....when it comes to club finances As for the abuse of Conway...he's the only one of them who's acted so publicly re his bravdo and dare I say narcissistic attitude hence he's getting the majority of the flack that's aimed and involves all of the group he heads I still stand by previous statements that in my opinion its an organised attempt at relegation as their business model suits the lower division re player development and sales The sooner these cowboys in charge are run out of town the better I'd say What we see as success is a million miles away from what this investment company of theirs see They've certainly no ambition when it comes down to the sense of winning stuff otherwise we wouldn't have had the commitments that CEO Kalid expressed on behalf of the club ....when he claimed that last season wasn't successful etc Fortunately or unfortunately for Kalid the similarities are part of the game like Larry the loafer he's just a puppet
I don't see playing in the championship as great preparation for league 1 personally. We're struggling now, lose even more of our " better players and we'll drown. It's a bit like doing your A levels now in the hope it makes your o' levels easier!
Why, Woodrow is a good Championship striker? Remember form is temporary class is permanent. All he’s tried to do is play in the role he’s been asked, which obviously isn’t his best position but anyone accusing him of not trying or not caring are simply wrong. I hope when he recovers from this injury and hopefully he’s still here come February, he can be played up top
If he goes, so do I, but I hope he stays, gets played up front with plenty of service and I’m sure we’ll see the Woodrow goals flow.
You're implying that selling players in this window is "to throw in the white flag." The sub-section of the thread on which I've replied stems from a comment, not by you, that the board should be given credit for not selling anyone, and you've replied to my argument that this is something that they shouldn't get credit for if it were to happen. I asked you two questions, based on what you'd implied, which at this stage you've declined to answer, as is your prerogative.
Apologies for my facetious tone but I just want this season over. I'm past caring who gets the goals. The outcome will be the same. I just hope the club can sell the four or five players it needs to keep trading and be competitive next season.
Good lord how the heck have you come to that.My comment was a generalisation about the way there actions could be interpreted nothing more nothing less no agenda. As for declining to answer I've been busy for the past couple of hours.I hope my reply clears things up for you.
