Gave it a few hours to calm down. Didn't work. Felt compelled to email the Club.

So why say we were looking for an experienced manager?

Logic states that allmanagers looking for work are likely to have failed at some point, otherwise they wouldn't be looking for work, would they? Total no-brainer that one.

RE: The response in full (typed verbatim, including any typos)

"Two years ago I became Chairman to sort out the mess left by Ridsdale and we sitting on a £3.65 million annual loss and that in the very short space of two years has been reduced to £186,000. That has been achieved by a massive amount of hard work and commercial skill and of course Patrick’s financial support has been crucial. None of us are paid for what we do and do not expect to be, and I must tell you that I have been a supporter of Barnsley Football Club since 1946 so we do have the ambition and we do love this club and I really do resent some of the comments made by people like you."

Do I gather from this statement that Mr Shepherd claims sole credit for turning around the financial position of the club. If so could I point out that during this time Andy Ritchie manager an average team to 5th place in the division, won a 2 legged play-off with Huddersfield and took the club to a "lucrative" play-off final at Cardiff which earned the club higher revenues in the devision above. As a reward for his efforts he was summarily sacked 4 months later. If Mr Shepherd considers this a fair reward for Mr Ritchie's efforts, does he too expect to be sacked shortly.

The losses reported above will include:

wages of players no longer with the club (Lumsden, etc)
wages of Peter Ridsdale and his assistant
wages of McPhail etc who's pay would have been above our current salary scales, but who helped get us promoted to the Championship.

I continue to be prepared to be shocked by the quality of signings that we make during the transfer window. Until then, I shall assume that our wage structure will condemn us to Division 1 football next season because the Chairman thinks that players are an expense and not an investment.
