There needs to be something put in place where a club can not play any player that has need been paid their contracted wages until they have caught up, and if any wages/non-agreed debt is still outstanding at the end of the season, their place in the league will be suspended/withdrawn. Only way you are going to stop chancers taking control of clubs and Chansiri-ing them. On an even more serious note, if the reported £7.5m rent payment for the stadium is not made, would there be any knock-on effects, in terms of FFP or even the tax-man?
Isn’t that what the FFP is supposed to be for? I know it’s not specific in the interpretation of it but it’s within the spirit . It’s like any laws they are open to interpretation and devious people will find ways around them .
FFP gives too much leeway with doing the sums over a 3 year period and also means clubs can basically cheat for 3 years without any punishment. Obviously, once those 3 years are up the pain starts, but again, they can still play the players they can't afford. I think once teams fall foul of FFP, the league needs to look at their books and give a maximum spend on player wages in each match squad. Say, if their turnover is £10m per year(for ease), they will be given a budget of 80% of that(£8m) for wages in their matchday squad(£173k per match). How they put their squad together to use that £173k is up to them(average per player is ~£10k per player). It will never happen as it's too hard for them to police and even getting accounts from some teams is a tow.
