We get all our fruit and veg from our local fruit & veg shop. Meat from the butchers also. All better quality than the supermarkets and also supporting our neighbours
In Tenerife at the minute I concur! Food quality is far better - 3 pound for a beer is also a bonus and where a small can is cheaper than a can of diet coke in the UK.

Do you have much outdoor space to grow a few things yourself? even if not, tomatoes, cucumbers and most lettuce leaves are a doddle and don't need much space at all and taste so much better than many things you get from supermarkets. I'd say same with chillies too. We grow them, pick them after they've turned red, dry them, blitz, and we have chili flakes that sees us through to the following year.
We said the same. Spent three months in Galicia and chicken in particular is a) much cheaper and b) pretty much all corn fed with that yellowy tint. The corn fed stuff here costs much more. Same with cauliflowers - bloody huge they were (although a tad more expensive - even in Lidl).
