My foreman fitters nickname was Longshanks during my apprenticeship but I never knew why? I could hardly ask him.

Charles I. By helpfully agreeing to have his head cut off for starting a war against his own people he effectively showed us that Kings aren't divine, just human beings like everyone else.

He could have saved himself though. As could Mary Queen of Scots. His divine right cost him dearly.

Edit: WTF. Why does it change the name of a king of England (lovely person the Great) to Lovely Person?

    Got to be Edward 1st, 2nd & 3rd because they're family !!!!
Sounds crazy but sons been doing a lot of work on our family tree and apparently we are related on my great grandmothers line, 22nd, 23rd & 24th x grandfathers
It's not as far fetched as it sounds because apparently somebody did some research around 1900 that predicted between 80k - 100k people are related to Edward 3rd, so by know that's probably over 250k

Henry VIII. Established the Royal Navy that started England on the road to greatness.

Going to play some Europa Universalis 4 now.

I thought it was the case that something like 50% of the English are related to Edward III and just about all Western Europeans are related to Charlemagne. The bad news, Sprotborough Red, is that you’re related to Danny Dyer.

Charles was a disaster. But so interesting. if Thomas Wentworth wasn’t so preoccupied kicking Irish arses, he could have probably stopped all that.?

Ted 2 apparently died very painfully. After his ‘favourite’ was executed for treason. Richard 2nd was starved to death in Pontefract Castle. Both losers.

to go off piste here -
(know you're from Wentworth) - why did the Fitzwilliam lot die out - at one point family with 10 sons all called William then a few generations later there's no male heir?
(The last female descendant/heiress of the family Fitzwilliam married to J Rees-Mogg.)
All chronicled in the excellent book Black Diamonds.

I’m from Hoyland, live in Wentworth. Have an average interest/knowledge.
8th Earl, Peter. Died in the plane crash with JFK’s sister, Catherine ‘Kick’ Kennedy. No ‘legal’ heir. Title passed to Eric, a cousin, total drink with no interest or children. Them Lord Tom, 10th Earl Fitzwilliam, jolly bloke, according to my Dad, but again, no issue. The estate passed to family, but the title died..
