Still waiting for him to explain the difference between shouting 'scab' and 'dee-dar' and why one spoils his enjoyment and the other doesn't.
true.... but football isn't one of them personally I don't 'cos he's generally not as bothered as he used to be when I was younger unless the ticket's free or we're playing Chelsea but criticising someone for going with their Dad? I'm not getting involved in the scabs arguement but that's getting a bit desperate
RE: Im an abusive *****, put up with it!! I like them owd gits that moan, but in a sort of ironic/amusing way, like them blokes that are always shoutin' "Sidaaaarn!!!"</p> Salt of t' earth. </p>
I'm 16 and I was singing it because I know how bad it was during then strike from the things I've heard. It affected my dad and grandad as he worked at the pit so it obviously affected the family. Barnsley is still recovering from that strike so who are you to say that people that sing it don't know about it, do you know every person individually. BTW, I fecking hate the Barstewards, they are the scum of the earth, probably the worst fans I have seen after Cardiff. They were trying to fight us when we were on the bus and at the match a bloke in his 40's started spitting at me from the upper tier. Scum of the earth.
with all due respect pal.. one mans job against a whole town's demise doesn't even compare. unlucky that you've got the chop and I sincerley hop you drop on something soon with xmas on the way but to compare that to a whole town in turmoil? **** off!
RE: Was there really any need to call him a ********? Im getting fed up of the personal abuse on her totally agree Cazi its getting worse by the week
Every Need! I experienced the strike of 84. anyone who doesn't feel the same, was either privelidged enough to not be effected or working!
Your attitude affects their attitude which affects your attitude and so it continues forever. You can be part of the problem or part of the solution. It's your choice to take the pain and anger forward or decide that it doesn't have anything positive for you in life. It's your choice. 16 years old? Chanting 'scabs' won't make the strike any better for your dad or your grandad, and I don't mean any disrespect to you or your family when I say that.
RE: Was there really any need to call him a ********? Im getting fed up of the personal abuse on her I agree with you Cazi.
ok, now I'm 50 next... so I suppose to you I'm a' travel rug wearing thermos flask drinking' fossil. I'm passionate about my club but I've been put off travelling away because of some fans 'having a laugh'. Now I'm not a prude, far from it, when my kids were young I was often reminded about the 'colourful language' I used to let fly but the lack of respect shown by some people is a sad indictment of our society. I was 25 during the strike and the flippent chanting of young people on both sides of the divide because it's 'what you do to have a laugh' let's say disappoints me and I think trivialises an issue that affected many of my friends and therefore indirectly me. </p> </p>
I don't sing it to make it any better tbh but I'm actually quite angry at them for going back as I believe it crippled Barnsley IMO.
It's the law of the playground if you don't agree with someone they are a ********, **** etc........ rather than a constructive discussion. BRF is even being criticised for going to the match with his Dad !!!
IT's a subject that cuts deep through the town and anyone foolish to go "against the grain" is rather foolish to say the least. Maybe I appear too strong in my comments and apologies to anyone offended but I know I'm right.
From whatever perspective you look at it the Miners Strike and all that come with it was a terrible occurence from which few on either side come out of it with much credit. Whilst leaders on both sides played politics the ordinary miners and their families paid the price and suffered awfully Such events cut deep and are not and will not be easily forgotten. Betrayal by the strike breakers are vilified by those who did not break lines - but in reality the Notts miners were just desparate people at the end of their tether. It is sad that things like the strike are still remembered but nevertheless it is understandable and will continue to be an issue each time we play a Notts based team.
