They wouldn’t have made it worse though, would they? Even if it’s not proven to work.

I understand the point about not taking away valuable PPE from medical staff, but requiring (or even recommending) facial coverings, scarves, bandanas etc. Should have been done a while ago in my opinion.

Taiwan made them mandatory in public around early February and since then each resident has been issued 3 free face masks per week from the local chemist - around 80m per week in total.

If they can spin up the manufacture and distribution in a few weeks, then it should have been easy for the UK to do it...

There must be a big announcement coming on the 15th June. I think pubs will be allowed to open by then.

Reason I think that is they will be the only organisations left that won't be open. Surely it is unfair to let all shops open and lift restrictions but tell certain people they can't trade?

As far as I can remember though Jay. wearing one helped to protect others. The rest is common sense. We protect each other. Dunt need a scientist to tell me that.

That would be good. This summer hasn't been good for grass roots sport such as village cricket teams. It would be great if whilst they can't play cricket they could cover their pitches with lots of 4 person wooden picnic tables to make back the money they haven't made so far, by getting to serve many more people outdoors, like Barrow plan to for Rugby.....

I thought they were protecting the NHS by not letting the public source PPE cos we may have been better at it than the Gov.

They were. That’s the reason we (once again) decided we knew better than other countries.

More than 2 months ago Jay. science was saying that wearing one provides protection to others if you have the disease. ( bear in mind some folk don’t have symptoms) the chances are reduced if anyone coughs/sneeze. I am aware they are not foolproof. But reduce the risks.
I am aware clinical masks are impossible to get hold of. But I wear masks at work of varying protection depending on work type. Eg Spray from airborne substances.
Masks although not clinical have been available from day 1. All they’re suggesting now is exactly the same. Face coverings to reduce the risk of passing it from one to the other.
Unforgivable for me. That it was not done sooner.

Making face masks mandatory now FFS as other posters have said should have been done 3 months ago, on the 2nd of June we had 359 deaths and the deaths in every other EU country added together totalled 330 and this Buffoon of P.M. stood up in parliament and said he was proud how the government was handling the crisis, these p1llocks Johnson, Hancock, Rabb, Mogg and Patel I would not put them in charge of an Ice-cream van let alone the country.

I may be wrong but I am sure there were experts including some virologists arguing that, since touching your face before washing your hands increased the likelihood of catching the virus. Putting on adjusting and removing masks increased the frequency with which you touch your face and in fact the mask itself could be contaminated, so the risk was higher. Not sure that holds up now as valid but if EVERYONE wears a mask in public, whilst I am no expert, logic dictates that and reasonable distancing should massively reduce the chance of inhaling virus containing droplets.
Whatever , Italy's drastic measures, including mandatory wearing of masks for some considerable time now, seem to have, for now, paid dividends with deaths below 100 for most days now and consistently very low numbers of new infections. Let's hope it stays that way.

Rules don’t come in until the 15th. That will show you, stupid virus. This is your Scarborough warning. If you don’t leave in 10 days, we will start wearing masks!
