The most worrying thing in that article was no EFL club would be allowed to go into administration. Does that create opportunity for all the poorly club run clubs to take advantage?
I think you may be right on these two, they're not big clubs and somehow pay way more in wages than we do. The other headcases are cooking the books.
I agree. Living beyond their means half of them and when they going to go bust Scream Blue Murder that if they don't get help they'll go out of business. Well don't spend the sodding money to put you in a position to go out of business then. Like normal companies do "In the real world". Simple philosophy lost on most clubs "chasing" the holy grail of the PL
Was thinking same and imo all relief should come with conditions ie wage and playing staff reductions above a reasonable squad . for too long players have been happy to play in obscurity for very good wages in all leagues. But that shouldn’t impact on the lowest earners at the club ie the easy targets the relief should a also look at highest earners and what agreement clubs come to before any relief .
Project Big Picture is scrapped - for now. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/oct/14/premier-league-efl-bailout-project-big-picture
biggest problem is they will agree to get some money supposedly to get over covid issue they then give players even more money and still not able to make ends meet then where is the next handout coming from and what strings are attached to that one if there aren't enough strings to this deal. football needs to get it's finances in order and not spending more than it gets in out on wages to players most owners of football clubs have made money through good business and if I was employed by them and I asked for my wage to be doubled or I leave my arse would be booted out the door in very short order but these people lose their senses when it comes to sport if a business can't afford the wage increases they don't happen
Agree, in reality I think what will happen is something like the EFL will pick up the Playing staff wages, which at least should enable the club to pay the ‘civilians’. I can also see the likes of Chansiri trying to put the club into admin knowing there will be no on the field penalties.
For now ! It’s obviously what the big six expected ,go in with a ridiculously over the top proposal which will obviously get knocked back and criticised, Then go back in with your original over the top proposal which now doesn’t look too bad after the uproar of the first .
The worrying thing for me from the article DR,is that the EFL will bail out any Championship club to stop them going into Administration. I could see other clubs protesting. The government could help football and rugby clubs by allowing supporters back in and sponsors too. The whole scientific rationale for non attendance in stadia seems unjustified and at odds with the fact that everyone can go on holidays, to the pub, restaraunts, work.
If the clubs in danger have genuinely tried to live within their means then i have every sympathy. If the clubs in question have been squandering money they dont have chasing the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow then they have no one to blame but themselves
Why not swap the ball for a fox ....pound to a penny they would let supporters in to see the fox being kicked around..then ..
So you're one of the halfwits running these six clubs. You're getting worried about how you can afford your current squad. Do you: a) Run bleating to Sky Sports, crying about how you cannot cope without a magical hand out b) Take responsibility, sell some of your players to generate cash and reduce the wage bill Tough one.
Cunning plan........ Come and watch a fox race, with a free 45 minute football exhibition either side.
Sounds like The Cutting Edge pub at Worsbrough when the smoking ban came in. Scientific research was one of the exemptions for smoking indoors in public places. They renamed the tap room the smoking research room and gave you a slip of paper on entry, with a few questions to answer on your smoking habits!
A bailout would be insanely unfair, basically helping teams who spend past their means by blaming covid. If they help any teams it should be only paying their lost match day revenue and nothing more.
