    Hameed averaged over 40 in tests before this game. He was only dropped because his county form went down the toilet. Hopefully he picks himself up as he's looked great in the counties the last 2 years. Far more assured than Sibley or Crawley

    I'd expect a good opener to get bat on it, but it was a bloody brilliant ball that got him. Nightmare delivery to get first up on your return to the side.

    He’s literally carried that top order for a while now, no wonder he has back problems. Only England player who can adapt to all forms of batting, provably the greatest I’ve ever seen for that reason.

    Class act by Root to start and finish the day batting for six and a half hours and get his average back above 50. Shame Jimmy swung at the last ball of the day instead of blocking it, as Root was well on course for a double century.
