If we're going to get anywhere near their score, these two probably need to bat for the majority of our innings. I've little confidence in Ali and Bairstow to get big runs, and our lower order is pretty fickle.
Modern day Hick? He’s in his 4th test. The only reason he dropped out of the team in the first place was through injury
It was dead straight. He was slow on it, had no foot work and played with an angled bat. In the days of Gooch, that flies past the bowler for 4. First ball or after a double hundred.
He did. I don't ever recall him completely missing a straight half volley that didn't move though. Meat and drink. Meat and drink.
A ball needs to do something to go straight at lords, given the slope. Root missed a leg stump half volley when well set in the last test
He looked nervous while fielding. Might as well show a bit of patience with him. We're currently where we usually are score wise.
The batsmen needs to do something to miss a straight ball. Watch how he angles the bat. If he brings the bat from there and can't hold it straight, it's just more of the same. He needs runs in the second innings. A failing side is no place for a timid child.
Just watched gooch debut. 3 balls from max Walker, 2 from Geoff Thompson. Uncovered pitches then. 2 poor strokes though. Commentators were talking about his potential and sticking with him. Didn't do too bad did he?
Looks like he played for movement down the slope, and it straightened up the hill. It wasn’t anything like as bad a ball as some on here are making out. Yes, he should’ve done better and was done for pace, but to suggest his place in the side for the next test is in danger is a bit extreme. That’d be like 90s selection.
Just got back from my dog walk and see I've missed 2 wickets. Why is it never Burns and Sublet together that can form any sort of partnership!?
It’s all a bit 90s really isn’t it? I’d be surprised if the selectors dropped him, just because of the lack of options. But from what I’ve seen so far, field too, I’m beyond unimpressed. A proper batsmen sees a straight half volley and tucks in.
Yep, he misjudged one. It happens, but I think the only way you could be more dismissive is if he had Dike on his back Agree about the fielding, but I think that can be said of most of the team. Dropped catches, the runout efforts, the one by bairstow was particularly poor.
im surprised he can pick his bat up, let alone DD! He’ll have a few games to try and do something, but he just looks fragile and like he’s never played cricket before. Hope he can get a 30 or so, even that would be better than the norm for most of our batsmen.
That is the biggest load of b0llox you’ve ever written, and my god you don’t have half talk nonsense.
