And who pays for all this in the long run? You and me I'm afraid, not the shareholders, or yhe CEO's taking a paycut.
I got mine shortly after the credit crunch, so the rules might have changed - but it stays on your record for 6 years (even if paid off). After that point, it is no longer on the register of Judgement, Orders and Fines and no longer appears on your credit report. The only people who will know you have one after that date are those you tell or those who you owe the debt to. And you left your coat in the Corner Pin when you were talking to a lady and followed her and her friends to Quasimodos.
I had a CCJ removed from my records in the last couple of years and this is very much still the case. It is like it had never happened. My credit report shot up and everyone and their dog wants me to take their credit cards or loans at really good rates! Not that I take them of course. I have one credit card which I got when we moved house and is currently being paid off at 0% interest.
It's not the fact that it's still in your record, it's that during the time it's on your record you cannot get credit. When it's removed from your record you have no credit history. Without credit history, a credit score of zero, you still can't get credit so even though it's gone it continues to cause the person trouble. As I said, it adversely affected me for about 10 years.
The median salary in the UK is c. £26k. From January energy will account for about 20% of take home pay for that amount. Something has to be done.
I can see swaithes of the country just getting out their riot gear soon. It's absolutely scandalous to even think of those prices never mind how anyone is supposed to live.
Worth mentioning that in January 2021 the energy price cap was £1,138. That was increased to £1,277 in October 2021. It currently stands at £1,971. To consider a level at £4,200.... the consequences for so many households is unbelievable. I really hope we don't have a prolonged cold snap.
When you look at that increase since Jan 21 it's just staggering. We are moving towards a point where people are actually going to be sat freezing through the winter. A point where government intervention is needed.
I just worked out that my Jan 2023 combined energy bill, assuming same usage as Jan 2022 will go from £224 to be £510 for the month. I'm just not putting on the heating, I'll spend £100 on electric blankets for everyone. Assumption on Jan 23 pricing being: Gas=10.5p per Kwh Elec=43p per Kwh but as we know, that will be the next 3 month review after October, so it will actually be higher.
It kind of doesn't matter how cold it gets as a lot of people won't be able to afford to keep their heating off. Much of the increase has been stacked on to the standing charge so even if you don't use any energy, even if you turn all your lights and heating off and huddle under a blanket, you still have a huge bill to pay.
This is going to be very, very, bad. I forsee civil unrest. It only takes one spark for widespread grievances to explode. Remember the Mark Duggan shooting?
They are very cheap to run though, especially if they have several settings, you only need to heat to about 55 degrees - costs a couple of pence and hour.
I’d be more inclined towards the poll tax riots for a comparison regards country wide anxiety. However since those days and the Iraq war and the bankers protests the state has got its act together and generally the organisation of such events (even the peaceful ones) have been curtailed and in some instances stopped altogether . Took some doing but with the media barons and vile police tactics ( which were mostly the cause of the violence with a few agitators in the crowd ) and a sympathetic judiciary they have all but stifled any protests . So much so that no one turns out to these protests even if some semblance of organisation is in place , which is why things as unjust as Austerity etc was allowed to go almost unchecked .
Which just makes all the green agenda seem even more ridiculous to me. Even if you turn things off we'll still charge you.
That’s nothing to do with the green agenda tbh, That’s a scam the utility providers have hid behind for years , it’s a guarantee for their pound of flesh .
Agreed but shouldn't government or the regulator (who are a joke) put measures in place to stop it. To actually reward people for using less energy if they are serious about changing people's habits. Charging for plastic bags, banning plastic straws, moving to electric cars. But not actually rewarding people for using less energy.
We haven’t got a government at present and that’s suiting the Tory right and the fat cats who are using these weeks of zombie free for all to cash in . Boris party’s whilst Britain is scammed imo . Unfortunately the capitalist system has wrapped around the bones of our normal society whereas if we try to reign them in our pensions , heating and everyday existence etc are the first to suffer .
