If he's going to the Championship then spending £3m on a nearly 28 year old player who has only ever played 22 games in League 1 before this division is a decent whack of money and historically a record.
I’m sorry his age shouldn’t be a contributing factor for the kind of money we’re asking, he’s approaching or at his peak, and will be for at least another 2 years - we aren’t selling potential here, we’re selling a ready made, slot straight in player. Should be minimum £4m to a team aiming for championship playoffs.
What narrative Frog ?. And how much longer can we keep using that excuse. That whatever happens from now on, is still all Lee & Conway's fault, apparently!.
But his age is a factor though. It just is. That's how modern football works. You pay for potential and resale value. Players are assets these days, not just players.
For sure mate but I think those clubs are limited in number. I stick to my point and if we get anything over £3m I’d be surprised but pleased.i think we should sell for anything over 3 and consider anything over 2. Maybe I’m getting old but I just think it’s probably best to move players on when their stock is high and continue to evolve and grow as a club. I used the think differently but I think hanging on to players against their will doesn’t work .
Gentle reminder that none of us will know how much we sell him - or anyone else - for. Unless tradition is broken and both clubs disclose the fee. I’m not saying that makes such a discussion futile. Because as ever, a rough fee will end up in the ether somewhere, via some ‘in the know’ type, a journalist etc. Which will see more debate on whether it was good/bad. And in my experience, most of the estimated and talked about fees aren’t miles off the truth. A few were some way off, but the majority are there or thereabouts.
If they've set us back say 5 years (not unreasoable imho) and it's less than 5 years since they left, then yes Neerav and Co are still shovelling their ****.
And they're still dishing out some of their own as well. They are not exactly blameless here are they.
That the board are taking money out is a big one mate. People still say it to this day. When Lee + Conway left, I said it'd be atleast 5 years until we shake them off us. I fully still believe that. They set the club back years and years. This board have got this season completely wrong, but the last 2 when theyve had control, 1 was very good, and 1 we almost achieved what we wanted and finished top 6. They've been incompetent, niave maybe, but the way people speak about them as though theyre not pumping millions in every year and pretending theyre taking money out is ridiculous.
Well that's something that I don't go along with, regarding them allegedly taking money out and lining their own pockets!. And the personal insults aimed at Julie Q, are also disgraceful. But I do think they're really incompetent in how they're running the club I'm afraid. And I'm not constantly going to keep using the Lee & Conway excuse anymore. And this is not down to any narrative or me having a personal agenda.
And that's fine mate and I appreciate your opinion. Ultimately, we both, along with every one else on here, want the best for the club. I feel some people think its far too easy to run a club and are quick to judge, especially our new managerswhen they arrive. I agree they've been incompetent. Not an issue saying that all mate. But If and hopefully when they do get something right, I'm not going to be one of those who refuses to change his mind and praise, like people do with players.
One other thing I also agree with Frog, is we were so close that day at Wembley. The owners were so close to being part of a club, who could say they won the Play off Final. And for those who dismiss that and the whole season as a failure, and say Duff should have been sacked for it, etc. Well Im sure you know what I'm getting at there!!. It almost worked as well under Collins, but its been going downhill slowly but surely, ever since then.
