Sat at Bolton waiting for the game to start and something just occurred to me.

If that cheating Wednesday bstd had not robbed that penalty last week, Derby get in the play offs and last night never happens.

    Karma eh? ;)

Just a goal scoring opportunity. He was in the box, been gifted the ball from their rubbish attempts at a clearance of course its a goal scoring opportunity

Have to agree to disagree Helen, I don’t think he had the ball fully under control and the covering defender was also an obstruction.

You appear to be saying that any time an attacking player has the ball in the box , no matter how little it's under their control, that it's a goal scoring opportunity simply because it's in the box regardless of if defenders are covering. If that's the case every penalty is a red right?

No, not if an attempt has been made to play the ball.

So every shirt tug in the box is a red?

I'm saying if it was seen to be a foul by the ref ( and yes we're agreeing it was a soft foul) and there was no attempt to play the ball when there's a goal scoring opportunity then yes its a red card by the rules. Which is what happened.

Agree. If a shirt tug in the box is deemed to be a foul denying a goal scoring opportunity then by definition it’s a red card.

Thank you, I was afraid I wasn't explaining myself properly!

Think it was because you were explaining it to the hard of understanding.
