Defending

The simple fact is we need to improve our defence, significantly. Whether its new formation, new players or players we have adapting and improving more. We cannot expect to be competitive without doing so.

 

So roberts will only play a bit part this season which is what Mladen told me. Earl and mdg cannot defend in my opinion. Shepherd is our hope. We need a strong back 4 and at present we dont. Until we have this we will struggle. Its not rocket science

 

I totally agree with this. Defending isn’t just the 4 or 5 players playing in defence. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think a lot of them are that good but a different defensive system and all other players pressing/positioning better can cover their deficiencies.

One of my frustrations last season was how often opposition players had time to play the ball. They could look up and expose the obvious spaces the defensive system gives allowing them to expose the lack of pace at the back.

If we resolve this we’d look a lot better defensively.

 

First day is going to be interesting as I guess it’s going to be Earl at LB and MDG at right back then if no further incomings and our new LB not able to play due to being on loan from them.

 

i agree defence starts at midfield 1st our midfied good going forward andv crap getting back -how many times did we give ball away in our own half whenpushhing out- we need a redfearn urgently
